  • Low Fuel and Check engine lights not working

Anyone know what the cause for the check engine and low fuel lights not working? Ever since the cluster died and the dealership put in a new one neither of those has worked (the car was in limp mode a while back after a rough start.. I thought I had read that the CEL should be on when that happens, but it wasn't).

I'm not sure what other indicators aren't working but those are the only ones I've noticed so far. The dealer looked at it and said they couldnt' find anything wrong with it. Is there anything else I can check?

you can check the bulbs themselves with a vagcom, but that wont really prove anything other then the bulb works (could possibly be not coming on for another reason). You could always do something to trip the CEL. I think disconnecting a coolant temp sensor, or leaving the gas cap loose will do it. You'll want a means to clear the codes though, if the light does come on. Fuel light might not have been calibrated right with the new cluster? maybe you just have to run it really really low? Im guessing a little on that... but there is a calibration for the cluster for fuel level.

Sorry.. that probably didnt solve much.

Well I ran the tank pretty low.. I put 54 litres in the other day so I figure that was low..

Is the calibration something that can be done with a vag-com? I've been looking for an excuse to buy one

i've only played with it (ie: made the needle go up and down). I think you are supposed to drain the tank, add 7 litres (7 is the 'reserve' i think) and then adjust the needle to the red line on the gauge... what i dont know is if the low fuel light is triggered by the gauge position, or some other sensor. Vagcom is cool.. but i dont know if it will fix you problem
