  • Bilstein Sports + Eibach Pro-kit

Ok, after some extensive research and only limited knowledge of suspension tuning, I've decided on Bilstein Sports + the Eibach Pro-kit for my MKIV Jetta. I thought that I'd fish for some comments here before making a purchase.

Can anyone share their experience with this setup (or any other kickass suspension setups that you've tried). This is primarily for street use, ocassional track use.

    I appreciate any feedback.

You'll be very happy with that setup. I've had that exact setup in my Corrado.

        i have bilstein sports + H&R sports + a rear sway bar.

my god.. the handling is incredible now.

it's a bit rough when it's cold out, but who cares.

How much do the Eibachs lower it? I didn't think it was very much (1.3" or so). If that's enough for you then you can't go wrong with Eibach.

1.25". I've been under the impression that lowering an MKIV any further will result in less than optimal handling. Asthetically, I'd like to take it down further, but handling is numero uno. Besides, my wheels are 18x8" in front and 18x9" in the back, so this is probably as far as I can go anyway...

1.25" should make a noticible improvement in appearance, shouldn't it?

Well, I think .75" will probably have less impact on -ve handling characteristics than staggered wheels on FWD but I could be wrong. I am by no means an expert on mk4 so I'm not sure but there are quite a few folks here that run 2" (some that autocross), maybe try and get a spin in one and see how you like it (if you come to one of the monthly meets i'm sure someone can take you).

To see what a Eibach drop looks like just look at a stock mk4 with the "sport" suspension from the dealer, I believe they use the exact same springs (they use the stock shocks, but shocks make no difference in ride height).

I'm not saying don't do it, everyone has their own opinions on what should handle good and what looks good (I actually got in an arguement with someone on a volvo forum that things for optimum handling on a MK4 the front should be HIGHER than stock and the rear should be an inch lower ), just trying to help out with your decision. I do think that 2" looks quite good though.

I managed to turned up some picks of an MKIV with Eibach springs. I wasn't too impressed. I'm still worried about rubbing with a 2" drop though. Can anyone comment on this? I wish that height adjustable coilovers weren't so expensive...

The H&R Cup kit or H&R Race springs will drop the car ~2 inches. I think the main issues was that some cars had rubbing issues with the front sway bar and needed a new one.

you will only rub if you have a vr6 as it's heavier up front.

Well, height adjustability is suddenly becoming more of a priority for me...

Are there any non-dampening adjustable coilovers available that offer even a remotely comfortable ride?

Wow, this decision is getting harder rather than easier
