    Hey eveyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get a starter bench tested and rebuilt. It seems mine may have packed it in

    Thanks

      Me too...

I have been starting the car by getting a push down the street, then letting the clutch out in first. No idea what its called.
But when its running everything is fine, just won't start.

How would one test the starter in the car?

Other than montgomery auto parts, know of any good jyards that would have the starter I need?

I kind of need the car running by wed...

Part source and places like that usually sell rebuilt ones, they aren't too expensive, you just have to give them your core on trade.

I believe Canadian Tire can bench test batterys, starters and alternators.

I know starters for mk4's are $400+ so lets hope mk3's are cheaper. If I where you I would just get it rebuilt, check the yellow pages.

                      Thanks for all the replys.
I have no idea what the problem is now because the car won't even start from a push. All the electronics are going crazy too.

I hope I get it figured before WOW

well, it's usually only the battery, alternator or starter when these types of things happen. If you have the tools perhaps take the starter and alternator out and bring them both Canadian tire. A good thing to check if you DO get it running is to put a volt meter across the battery terminals and see if you're getting 14 volts or not (you may have already done that).

If you need a hand turning some wrenches or having someone stand and point let me know I can probably help on Wednesday (if you wait that long). I don't think I live too far from you.

Oh, what does it do when you turned the key (when it WOULD run)?

The last couple times before it stopped working it sounded like it struggled a little bit to start. I thought it had do with just not being driven much.

Ill see what happens tomorrow, I'll probly pull the alternater and starter to get them tested.

When the car was running, it was at 13V.

Sounds like def alternator then. 13V running is kinda low, and if it was struggling it was probably because the battery wasn't getting charged but if left for a while it recovered (sorry if i'm telling you stuff you already know).

If you're by sait (I know you attend there), apollo just up 16th will probably check it for free. I used to get a lot of work done there.
