  • Is anyone serious about TDi tuning?

We are currently looking at bringing in a few Hybrid turbos for the TDi. This would fit both the 90HP and the PD100 and will support tuning to about 185HP on these cars. In Europe it is being used to take PD130s over 200HP!!. It is based on the VNT17 that is fitted to the 150HP TDis in Europe. This is the base turbo that Bart is destroying S4s with . The Hybrid takes this turbo a stage further with a larger compressor wheel!! The VT2 hybrid is built in the UK by diesel tuning specialists Allard www.allardmotorcompany.com who are very well respected in the diesel tuning industry in Europe. Pricing on this will be in line with the prices in the UK with no shipping, duty and brokerage.

i'll be interested come late spring early summer! a few questions though....

-what injector size should be run?
-how big of an intercooler needs to be used?
-do i need a different "file" for my chip?
-how winter reliable will this be?

and last question, are you gonna do it simon?

You can easily go up to the 'race' injectors
A front mount is ideal but I am going to test some other options soon
A different file will be needed which I can take care of.. upsolute customers should not have a problem here We can recalibrate the fueling and boost for higher levels using a wider ranging MAP sensor.
I am also investigating an OEM method of reducing the boost spikes from large fueling/ boost mods
The reliability of the turbo itself should not be an issue as it is a much better unit than the stock one and will be designed to be much more effiecient at higher boost levels.

If you wanna throw out some numbers and possibly a time line as well as how often I would be without a car and how long cause this would be my dailly driver but I am working four on for off if that helps any. Id love to put more notches in my belt with my 04 PD Diesel

Final pricing will depend on how much bargaining power I have and how the $ is at the time but the UK pricing for the VT2 is 795 pounds. Normally you would then pay shipping, duty, brokerage etc on this. I am trying to get them here for something like the straight converted price. The only way of getting this done here would be to buy a VNT17 and a VNT20 then get a turbo shop to modify the VNT17 to accept the compressor wheel and get it all made up!! This would cost much much more!

I can also get injectors for a PD if you needed There is no reason why this cannot be made to be a reliable set up with a well thought out system of parts..

Interesting.... available for the PD as well
Definately interesting. Do you have any projections for a complete package price (injectors, turbo, tuning, etc.), and do you think the automatic transmission would take this kind of power?...

Regarding the PD100s I am just clarifying some issues with Allard as we need to know for the NA PDs what is done for the VNT sensor.

The prices are $1670 CAD for the hybrid turbo
Not too many IC kits fit the TDi but I can get..

                            Tyrolsport sidemount $999
                            Allard frontmount intercooler $920
                            Allard TDi FMIC pipes $643
Other options are getting custom pipes for any other FMIC I can get.

So other than the turbo and the IC what other things would need to be upgraded and what would the installation cost look like?
I wanna find the cost of the total package. Would it give the new GTI a good run and still have better fuel economy
