  • Thoughts on a car thats been wrote off and recertified?

The woman is looking at a 2003 Jetta 2.0 Cd, auto, headed seats, power locks, and power windows. It was hit in the left front end but the air bags didn't go off. They are asking $16,900

Just wondering what you guys think about cars that have been hit and recertified?

    thanks
    Kent

For such a new car to be written off the damage usually needs to exceed the price of the vehicle so keep that in mind. I would say that the price is way to high for such a car and it will more then likely been repaired on the cheap which will only bite you inthe arse later on. Ohh and resale in the future will also take a huge hit.

Two types of write off: write-off reparable and write-off non-reparable. Who sell you the car probably make 50% profit there.

A write-off car is worth around 10% or less of the original price. I think it is not worth it simply because of the collision history and you have no idea how bad of the accident it was. Don’t buy the car because of the deal that you see now, it is all about the reliability issue and problems trail after, but there are exceptions.

Just to give you an idea, if you come across a collision with the same spot was repaired before, the frame or the body will not have the same strength to absorb the energy which means you can possibly get hurt 10 times more serious compare to a car that have no collision history before. Metal stretch, compress and deform will not get back to its original shape.

Look, you might have seen car manufactures do their crash test. Do you think they will re-crash the car to get the results?

I heard somebody told me that the previous BMW 5. if the front bumper move like 2mm the car is automatically is a write-off. I think BMW is a better car.

I hate taking threads off topic but here is the link to the story about the BMW write off's. It is actually this current generation that has this issue.

do you realize that a written off car no longer has warranty, unless
it gets re-certified by the manufacturer.and for it to be written off
it had to of been over 75% damage over retail selling price.
if non O-E-M parts were used or used parts you will not have any warranty on the car..stay away.

i just sold a 02 golf gl for $13,800 and thats a pretty reasonable price

however it wasnt in an accident... i think the retail value of that car is probably around $12 grand

however i would stay away from automatic VW's

ya, a written off 2003 2l..Id say that 9 would be a deal, but not 'low baller'!

Ima be giving selling my car a whirl to see if I can get near what I want rather than trading it in on the new GTI..fully loaded TDI with mods and Id be lookin for like 18ish...so 17 for a wrecked 2l is
