*EDIT* Looks like it's my water pump impellor. Off to the dealership I go!

Today my temperature warning light began flickering and chiming. The guage was in the red up at 130 degrees!

I turned my heater on full to try and dissipate some of the heat and pulled over to check things out. No leaking coolant, fluid levels all in check, no irregular "hot smell" and everything seemed fine.

Get back in my car and the temp guage has dropped down to about 110 so I drive at a slower pace.

Weird. But everything seems fine now.

What could be causing this? I'm hoping it's just a faulty sensor, but I've also noticed for the last couple of days that the heater inside the car doesn't seem to be blowing air as hot as it usually does. The difference is a little negligable - whereas before I could 'burn' my hand if left in front of the heater for too long, I could leave it there all day now without the slightest hint of 'burn'.

    Does anyone have an ideas?

    Thanks!

    - Chris

          ^^ Exactly ^^

Covered under power train warranty, if you are still covered. They will fight about it unless they can replicate the problem.

            Thanks for the responses, guys!

I'm pretty sure it's more serious than a faulty sensor. I drove back from my girlfriend's in McKenzie and overheated again - this time the heater was acting a bit wonky, too.

Folks on Vortex are saying waterpump or thermostat (or both!).

If it is the water pump or thermostat, these should be covered under warranty, correct?

            Thanks again!

It does run off your timing belt but it doesn't tension it. yout tensioner does. I have chris's car on my hoist right now. Looks like a waterpump problem. I'll know asap.

Yep it's confirmed. The impeller is freewheeling on the waterpump shaft. Changing it as we speak. Thanks to Chris for trusting his car to me and SCFC! We will have him on the road ASAP!
