  • Why German Engineers Suck

So I was shopping on ebay for some new rotors, looking at some nice crossdrilled brembos when I realize that I should refer to my handy repair manual on how to do things if there's anything else I need (aside from the rear caliper piston tool).

Well, with the 2wd A4, the rear wheel bearings come off with the rotor and need to be repacked or replaced everytime you change rotors. Hmmm. And the stupid ABS sensor ring needs to be transferred over too, which isn't a big thing but I would not feel comfortable repacking my own rear bearings....

Since when did overengineered = stupidly engineered? I just found out when...

Oh, and why is it I have a torsion beam rear when even a stupid Altima, Grand Am, Grand Prix, Civic, etc. have independent rear suspensions????

    Sorry, rather pissed this morning.

I mean repacking the bearing even without the "packing tool" just involves working in grease, but still...having to extract and replace the "bearing races" just seems like a major PITA....I might as well just have Tuned Dub do the work...!

because you dont have quattro as stated.

i have a bearing packer. the race swap takes like 10 minutes if that.

Thanks bud, I'll pm you once the rotors arrive....

The strange thing is, overseas, the quattros are outsold by the frontraks by something like 2 to 1...those poor suckers with anything older than the 8e are riding the same suspension I am...

Since youre getting new rotors just buy some bearings and bring them to a shop and let them pack it in... It will take like 10 minutes and it wont cost much..

Also the ABS rings just snap right on no hammering needed!

Taking old bearings out of a rotor is PITA but pressing new ones in is nothing...
