  • Coolant Light coming on when cold

The coolant light on my Jetta has been coming on in the morning (flashing & beeping), and after the car has sat for about 12+ hours. After the car has been running for a couple of minutes I can restart it and the light goes away.

I have been trying to get this sorted out with NL, but to no avail. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? NL seem to think that it is due to low coolant, but I am sure this is not the case.

I had that issue on my mk3 and it was indeed low coolant. I added about 1/2 a cup and all was well.

NL had the car last week, & supposedly topped up the coolant to get rid of the problem. Drove the car home, & the light came on the next morning, so I am thinking that it is not the coolant level.

I have had the same problem, but it only happened when it was below -30C, I would just top up the overflow.

you can see the sensor when you open the reservoir im pretty sure. if is below the fluid, and the lights on.. the yeah, you might have an issue.

I had the same problem and with the same results from NL. I just kept at them and after three tries to fix it they finally did. First time i'm sure they just topped off the coolant. Second time they replace the coolant sensor, still didn't fix it. So I went back and bitched somemore. So the final time I told them that if its not fix this time I won't be taking the car home. This time they replaced the overflow coolant sensor and that seemed to fix the problem. So I'm not sure if your having the same problem as me but I'd asked them about the sensors? And i'm not sure what year your car is but i have a 2002 Jetta 1.8T.

                hope that helps.
