  • Importing TT from the States?

I'm just trying to get a clearer picture of what it takes to import a car from the states. I know I have to pay GST on the car, but what about inspections, border taxes, etc....?
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....

DRL have to be installed.. you'll have to pay duty on it.. inspection for sure.. cluster swap for KPH, possible bumper swap for cdn spec (depending on the car of course)..

too much work IMO.. just find a local one colin TT good choice! S4 is betta tho

There is no duty on a car that is also sold here so you will only have to pay GST, and whatever it costs to get it inspected and setup to pass the inspection.

I would look for one here Ryan, but I can't find anything on a decent deal. I found a few in the US that are a great deal.

I wonder if there is someone I could contact to find out what needs to be changed on a TT to bring it to CDN spec. Who knows, that might end up costing more than it's worth though.

Like Ryan said, DRL's are a must as well as a new cluster.....which is total BS if you ask me. But no duty payment is required only GST. No matter what the deal, it'll end up costing more by the time it's all said and done.....unless it's free

You can possibly recode the cluster or just get another face for it.

The rigorousness of the inspection probably depends on who is doing it.

I kinda looked into the costs on importing a porshce vs buying one in canada and imo it is definitely worth it to buy a porsche in the US and import it.

That's what I was finding with the TT too.

Now as far as an inspection is concerned, who can do this? Is it any registered bodyshop, dealership, etc.... or someone specific?

hey colin my dad has been a muscle car collector for years...i havent really been intoon with his dealings but i know that most of his cars are from the states. Hes had them shipped over and hes also towed them over on trailers. It hasent been a very big problem for him, no bumper swaps, no cluster change,(most cars have kph and mph ontheir clusters anyway). i just thought id let you know that their is a way to import. Besides, the states sell a ton more cars than canada because their population is just that much bigger. the selection and deals are better their.

                          Happy searching and good luck!

That may be the case with old muscle cars but with a newer car things are very different.
Airbag decals, child seat belt tethers, DRL's, bumpers.....there are a lot of things that could POTENTIALLY need to be changed.

Inspections are generally done at Canadian Tire as they seem to have gotten the contract so I dont think they are hard to pass. I do think the Canadian TT has different bumpers so be careful of that one
