  • Any idea how much Coilpacks go for?

    I *THINK* I need one for my 98 1.8TA4...
getting misfires in cylinder 1.. (and misfire codes.. 16684 and 85)
Will do the coilpack dance tonight to see if it follows..

Volkstech? Tunedub? Random with spare parts?

Chad (Klobi-One-Kinobi) just did one in his car, because he had misfire codes. dont know where the parts came from.. but maybe he can help.

VW 02+ ones are cheap push in ones, around 25bucks each. The older ones are screw in, but cost 75 or more I believe. 1.8Ts have coils (1 per cyl), VR6s have coil packs.

None of which helps R-Audi as I don't know which kind he has.

Mine are the screw in type...so most likely around $75 that means....

The old screw style are pretty solid - did you switch plugs first? Did the misfire follow the coil?

Havent done the Coilpack dance yet.. got the code late last night. It was only detected in cylinder 1, and the plugs were replaced right before summer..
Other then that it could be the ignition amplifier....and those cost a bit more...

Yep, I had misfires in cyl#3 under wot, one new coil(pack?) ($40) later and voila', no more misfires.

If your using copper plugs, it couldnt hurt to change them. Trial and error-start with the cheapest parts of course .

I completed the Coil Pack Tango last night.. She followed my lead exactly... guess I need a new pack! I replaced the plugs right before summer with IK22's so they arent cheap, and most likely wont go that route again.

Anyone got any discounts on a AEB (98 1.8T) Coilpack??

The push style are about $30 at a VW dealer

You may want to buy an extra when you get one because if they go your car goes straight into limp mode trust me I know. While your at it might as well do spark plugs at the same time.

I went and just bought one at C1 for $70.. so thats not bad.Works perfectly now! (With the exception of a broken dipstick tube, so I opened my hood to see an oil splatter on the botom of my hood...)
My car didnt go into limp mode before, but even if I did I usually have my VAG quite close..
My old one still works, just misfires under WOT.. I suppose they dont work as long with an upgraded turbo.. ah well. I changed my plugs before summer, and only drove till July, so there is no reason to switch those.. not to mention my plugs were a whopping $75... not doing those again!

When mine went i couldnt get it above 3KRPM without her going into limp. For yours i wouldnt worry about coilpacks its when the POS module ontop of your Air filter box goes that runs you $500 for a new one. Good thing they got rid of that thing after 99.5MY. I also never leave home without the VAG thats just asking for trouble with these cars. Are you Audone from AW?

diagnosis..and they flip the parts they misdiagnosed..

Somewhat related, someone on AW posted a cheaper source for the ingnition amplifiers.. cant remember off hand, but they were a lot cheaper...
