  • Phatbox Q's..

hey guys so how does everyone like thier phatboxes? my S4 has the 6disc changer which is working really well so far but I'm thinking I could easily have all my music in the car which is even better.. plus they are cheap as hell now haha.. i dunno if it matters if i buy the VW or Audi one i assume they are exactly the same..

but like how do you change folders? cuz right now i have buttons 1-6 for discs 1-6 but yea 200+ album folders i may have to check someones out at a mid month meet or something.

I have one in my golf. If you want to know how it works, my advice is to read the manual on their web site, but basically button #1 is song-mode, #2 is artist-mode, #3 is album-mode, I forget what 4 and 5 are, but 6 is setup.
So, you hit say #3, then use the next track buttons to skip between albums (directories), then hit #1 to play that album (or wait 5 seconds), once on #1, you use the next track buttons to go forwards/backwards through the album.
For me, I hit the mix button about 2 months ago, and haven't touched any buttons since
I like all of the music I put on the cartridge, so it can't pick a bad song.
It has voice prompts to say what each album is, but it can't pronounce a lot of words, and for some reason on almost every MP3 it will just say 'corrupt track' when I try to get the info for it. The MP3's are fine, and I've never had a problem playing them....
Every now and then mine locks up, I just unplug the connector, then plug it back in. Not a big deal. Definately worth the investment if you ask me.

it AN OEM iPod adapter, not the blitzsafe one I have.....can be seen here: http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...20_AUDI_R.html

Its a little more money, but less than a phatbox, and you don't have to have 2 seperate libraries! Futureshop does sell these, I can't remember how much....but Enfig is great to deal with...check out their site, they have ones that replace the changer aswell in the glove box (the T2 I think).....Anyhow, I think that would be a smarter option for you than another MP3 player...

Another thing to consider is that the phatbox doesn't work with .m4a music format (default in iTunes), so you'll probably have to convert all your music to .mp3, which is time consuming.

The latest (and last) firmware update fixed this problem ....I have numerous .m4a files on my phatbox now. The desktop program automatically converts them for you....

Oh, and I finally got my phatty working with my navigation over the weekend

                  Re: Phatbox Q's..

Yea, it's pretty damn slick now! I missed my phatbox so much the last couple of months.....it was well worth the hassle to get it back up and running.

As far as your question at the beginning of this thread goes, YES the phatbox unit is the same for all makes of cars but it is the wiring adapter that changes. I would think that the VW and Audi ones are the same but you would have to check that out for sure. I also know that if the adapters are in fact different, you can't just buy the phatbox from VW and order the Audi wiring harness....Phatnoise won't let you! You'll either have to try and make your own adapter (which would be very time consuming) or you would need to buy the complete unit straight from Phatnoise.com (which is alot more expensive for some reason).

You should hit Bart up for an Audi MFD Navi and then throw the Phatbox on their....it's an awsome combo considering it's OEM, I love mine

Install was easy, I love the thing.

The software is so stinking awful I can't even be bothered to upload my new music. Has anyone built a hack to get music onto this thing?

Huh ....what do you mean? You upload music to the Phatnoise Music Manager, then sync to the cartridge and upload to that....takes no time at all
