Yeah, I hear ya, but unfortunately on the A3 you can only get Quattro with the 3.2 and DSG. I don't really want the DSG (or the 3.2 for that matter). Basically if I bought an A3 it would be a luxureous 4 door Golf... which is what makes me want a TT.

Unfortunate too is the fact that the TT and A3 have the Haldex quattro, not Torsen. All my reading indicates that the Torsen system gives a 50/50 split most of the time, where Haldex is basically front wheel drive with help from the back when needed. I'm sure the Haldex is still better than FWD though.

      Re: January Meeting

i'm enjoying this discussion, perhaps one of the mods can cut out all the audi talk and put it into a new thread since this IS supposed to be for the January meet.

Call it "new wheels for Ryan" or something, or "Which to get?"

Edit: do you all really think quattro (or any AWD) is worth the premium you pay (and the power loss)? I mean my suby was nice in the winter on the odd day and what not but in the case of the TT where it will likely see more summer days than winter is it worth it? (especially if it's predominantly front drive anyway). I'm not hating on the Quattro but it seems to just be one element to a whole car if you know what I mean, like an "Audi" is more than just "quattro with a place to sit".

I tend to think of Audis without Quattro as VWs with a better interior.

I would tend to agree, especially since you pay slightly more for an audi, but that kind of goes to my point that, if you WANT something other than a VW and don't NEED awd wouldn't it make sense to just get the fwd? You still get the "audi touches".

Anyway, I only bring this up because I used to want AWD more than anything but now i'm starting to wonder if it's really worth it (not just Audi but Volvo as well).

              Re: January Meeting

funny thing today i was at C1 and talking to ken who just got back from the essen show in germany and he said the mk5 GTI in euro flavour is soooo insane! he said they should sell like mad here he said they are actually nicer inside with the sport package, etc than the A3 is when equally equipped..

course i'd have to see both myself but nice to hear opinions on em.

                Re: January Meeting

Ok thread split from the meeting thread first of all.

I am not sure what would be my choice either the A3 is nice and is growing on me but still not 100% sure on it. They do have the 3.2 DSG Quattro now ($45,000 too) but I am not sure if the premium is worth it. As for a TT I still love them lots but since the model change is coming I think a used TT would be a more economical desicion as you wont take as much of a hit and most of them are babied by middle aged people. The new GTI is still going to be a great car, not 100% on the NA trim and will need some mods right away and not sure how many will be roaming the streets by the end of next summer.

Edit as for the Haldex 4wd system there is a new brain available for the system too have a much better increase in the power distribution if anyone wanted to take care of that.

i like the TT because i know the engine and know how it all works..

i'm gonna go down to glenmore next week and test out the A3 2.0t, B7 A4 2.0T, and both engine's of TTs.. its going to be hard resisting not buying one for a few months tho.. but hey if i do buy one its going straight to the garage until the rocks are off the roads..

Boxter S, I don't think insurance will be much worse than a TT, and you'll have an amazing drive.
