Good thread on oil filters. I called NAPA today and will getting mine this afternoon. This is an awesome awesome mod and can't see why anyone wouldn't do it (that has a 1.8T).

I'm buying it because I'm aiming to start my engine this weekend

Interesting - do you know exactly how much it increases capacity?

Without reading the thread I belive it was something like 1 liter more, something like that. But to look at it, I'd say it adds .5Literes, its not a massive increase. Perhaps I SHOULD go read the thread again

        Re: Oil

I wonder how/if something like that would change oil pressure.

I don’t think much will be changed. A bigger filter remains as a close system.

beware of aftermarket oil filter's it increases capacity but does it
have the check valve built in to prevent oil starvation to the head
            during start up..

True that. I doubt nowadays oil filters for car applications doesn’t come with a check valve.

To achieve the maximum oil cooling you must add an external oil cooler. The oil cooler itself must have the external water cooling capability with a separate electrical water pump on the side. Haha.. you just need to spend more money.

Its not really a check valve so much as a bypass valve. The stock filter has a 33psi bypass valve, this napa gold 1333 (better filter) has a 30psi bypass meaning its so close that its irrelevant.

I have a friend who use to actually cut filter shells in half and remove the cartrdige/media for a recycling process. All the fram filters he cut in his oppinion were total garbage. He cut one of my OEM filters and it had twice the filter media as a fram which doesn't automatically make it better but its a start. Napa gold filters are awesome and the fact I can put a huge one on my car is even better.

i had one of my engineers cut open the new v.w filter and it does
have a check valve to prevent oil leak down.we looked at the vw
schematic of the lube system and this is why the filter on the passat is next to the head to prevent dry start up and now they increased the
capacity of the filter so now it holds .60 of a litre..critical for 1.8l turbos
since only 3.50 litres of oil was the capacity of this model.
p.s the napa oil filters are fantastic we use them steady.
frams exploded when temp dropped to minus 30 cel.
