  • Stampede Auto Sales : Experiances?

    Good evening,

I'm wondering if anyone's ever had any experiences with Stampede Auto Sales on 26th and 17th ave sw, either good or bad? I'm looking at purchasing a vehicle from them, and just want to know how they've treated past customers.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Re: Stampede Auto Sales : Experiances?

Thanks for all the replies, and good morning Brad! So I've found a 99.5 VW Cabrio that's red/automatic that my fiance' loves (she's always wanted a red car, and a cabrio). I'm looking to buy it from Stampede Auto Sales on 17th ave sw, and read the previous reports.

The car looks to be in very good condition, and my only complaint is that the seats aren't very comfortable (compared to the leather seats I had sat in previous...)

There's a couple issues that are hanging over my head, and as neither myself or fiance' know much of anything about cars, we're not quite sure.

#1: We ran a carfax history report. Showed Vehicle manufacturered. First owner 06/28/00. Then on 06/24/2004 it was brought back into dealer inventory. And that's it. I'm somewhat concerned what's been going on with this car for the last year and a half.

#2: He has none of the repair receipts, but has said he should be able to get them from the previous dealership.

          #3: He says it's a GLS, but Carfax says it's a GL.

The price is very agreesive on the car. I'm having it checked out at VW Auto Haus tomorrow morning. Is there anything else I should be doing before committing to this car, as long as I get the repair history.

If the inspection comes back with a green light, I shouldn't be worrying about anything (such as writeoff/flood/repairs, carfax reported none of those) should I?

Thanks for all of your input, I very much appreciate the help.

          Scott

            Carfax sucks for Canada....
I carfaxed a car that I knew was crashed twice, and written off in the second. Nothing showed up.
I did another car that was crashed twice, nothing showed up.
I did a third car that was flooded, nothing showed up.

            Waste of money IMO

I'm a little confused. The pics of Peter's car are not from the dealer on 17th and 26th... I assume the car was sold/moved from the dealership in the pictures? I've often wondered about the dealership on 26th and 17th. They tend to have a lot of high end cars, made me think they might be a chop shop!

Re: Stampede Auto Sales : Experiances?

I would recomend at least a VIN check at a registration place, it won't tell you much but it will tell you a) if it has a lean and b) if it has a "rebuild" status.

As for #3, I would talk to pipesly (sounds like you know him) it sounds like he knows a lot about Cabrio's and should be able to tell you whether it's a GL or GLS based on the options the car has (if carfax is mostly US based some of the trim levels are different between here and there).

Re: Stampede Auto Sales : Experiances?

I took a look at it on the website. Looks nice! The rims are from a GLS but you can get those rims off of a lot of vehicles. If CARFAX says it is a GL then it probably is. The website says it has a power roof, I'm pretty sure GL's did not come with a power roof. So check that out. There should be a switch in the very middle of all your power options (third one from the left) to operate the roof. Ask the VW dealer, they'll tell you if it is a GLS or GL.

Carfax only gets information when it is reported to the registration companies. So most major things would/should be reported, as for repairs, a car could be fixed without it being reported. CARFAX is usually good though, I've used it on the last two Cabrios I've owned and didn't have a problem.

Good luck with the Cabrio (I like the red ones, not as much as blue though)

There is a new company that is Canadian based so they might have better access to Canadian records. But I dont remember what they are called.

                        I would avoid "mudlots" alltogether.
