I was driving home today, and my little engine symbol (check engine) came on all the sudden. I was just thinking....I did an oil change myself at 49900km (that was the "next oil change" marked on the windshield) (P.S. This is my first oil change I've had to do since buying the car). The odo's at 50,450km now. Does that light come on at regular intervals like "around 50,000km" or should I take it in to get diagnosed? If not, how do I shut the damn light off? Thanks guys!

Re: Engine Light!
Check gas cap - if it's not clicked it will set off the light. There's a few other things that are just flukes and it will go away after 4 or 5 clean starts. Emmision ones stay I believe. Get a scan from someone with a Vagcom if you can.

Re: Engine Light!
So I got VW to do a diagnostic run on my car while it was in for the pan heater install...turned out to be the engine coolant temperature sensor. $45 part and they didn't charge labor because it was such an easy repair. What a relief!'02 Jetta 1.8Tuuurbo

Where did you get that done? The coolant temp sensor cost $7 both times I had it replaced and they charged me about $130 to install it, even though its like a 15 min job.Jeff

could'nt be at any dealership in Calgary, they will not install pan
heaters, and the same for Edmonton..45.00 dollars for the sensor
sounds like labor was built into the price..probably did'nt charge you for
diagnosis????/
