The A3 I priced out came in at just over 40,000 (or maybe it was a touch under) that was with HID's, the fancy sunroof (which I'm not sure i'd even get), DSG and sport package. Something tells me that a GTI is NOT going to start at 20,000. If I had to guess i'd say the GTI (with similar options) will not be that much cheaper, if at all.

The only thing I don't like about my car (other than the 2.0) is that it only has two doors. I've been renovating my place and even to flip down the rear seats is a pain with a two door.

Yay for the GTI 4 door!!!!

i will bet that the A3 is $5000 CAD more than the Golf V when similarly equipped - in fact the Audi will probably be better equipped at that price, simply by virtue of being an audi.

One of the NA car mags (either C&D or R&T) have a write up on a euro spec mk5 gti this month. Pretty impressive #'s, 0-60 6.0sec, latteral g's .90. This was a 2.0t with dsg. Should be a lot of fun with nothing more than a chip.

But our gti will have softer suspension and no launch control, and price is still uncertain of course .

Cant wait to test drive one when they arrive.

I picked up the nov. PVW and am totally sold on the mk5 after seeing that dude Ronnies black 2dr TDI on 20s (not that Id run 20s, proally 19s)....but if they run any more than 34g fully optioned out...well...VW can go pound sand and Ill be sportin' 4 circles
