  • Phatnoise sux phatcok

So my phatnoise player decided today that it would no longer work. I thought at first that the cartridge was messed up, but the error message I got was "NO CHANGER" and there is no power running to the unit. I checked the usual suspects like the connections and the fuses, but no luck. Anyone else had this happen to them? The unit is only about a year old, so I'm kinda pissed that it already bit the dust. Should I rant to the dealership I bought it at, or are they just gonna tell me to go through the maunfacturer for warranty?

PS - listening to radio makes me wanna stab myself in the eye

If it's under a year, since it's a VW part, any dealer should cover it under parts warranty.

Sorry to hear it. I hope mine lasts forever so I can hear at least each song on it once.

ahaha sorry, have to laugh about the timing. buy another one, put this one in the box, and return the busted one, and sell the extra one, that is the ottomh solution.

This same problem happens to mine every couple months or so. All I ever do is take the unit completely out of the brackets, unhook everything, and let it sit for a little while. The biggest problem I found is with the phatbox cable that plugs into the cd changer harness. If it gets twisted around too much, it seems to shut itself off. Try and plug the unit back in and wiggle the cords around a bit, it should work after that.....atleast it does for me . Let me know if you have any issues, I have a couple other tricks I use for mine when it decided to crap out

That happened to me once... so I reseated the connector at both ends and it worked fine after that. Hasn't happened since.

Happens to mine every now and then.
If you turn it off while it's updating it's firmware, it will freeze, both the green and red lights will be half-way on.
Other than that, sometimes I'll turn my car on and get the no changer message, and I just unplug the cable at the unit, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.
No idea why they're so finnicky. It's really disappointing, but at least it's easy to fix.
What drives me nuts is all the static.... piece of crap

                        I do the same fix.

I often get the error when I reload the hard drive.

Static? I have yet to have any static and mine isn't even mounted. It's just kinda floppin around in the back seat.

At low volumes it's louder than the music. It's present with the radio as well, so I suspect it could be the head unit.
                          Awesome VW quality.....

Which head unit? Monsoon DD or just normal single din? I have a monsoon just sitting in my room if you want to try it?

Premium V (or is it IV?...) that superceded the monsoon.
I am not certain if I can just drop in a monsoon to test things out. Perhaps somebody else knows for sure?
