  • Passenger door not seen as open?

Noticed that my passenger door doesn't trigger the "door ajar" light. Checked the latch and it does click the int lights on right at the last second before it's closed (then turns off again). But the rest of the time it's off. Switched the driver and pass lights, same thing.

Still under warranty (barely) but was curious if it's something simple.

if by chance it is the 'door pin' then the whole latch gets replaced, as it is an internal mechanism. I had to get my passenger side latch replaced under warrenty.

My drivers side door does the same thing. No dome light, no fuel pump prime, alarm resets if I don't start the car or do something else to tell it that I am in fact in the car. Have to remember not to leave the keys in the car if I don't do any of that stuff.

The solder joints for the switch break causing intermittant or no contract for the door switch. There is a fix on the tdiclub if you are no longer under warranty.

Thanx. I may have to go hunt that down.

              The procedure is pretty good.
I did it myself along with a few other guys (and their cars too) this summer.

On mine, one of the microswitches was actually busted. Since there is no replacement for this particular microswitch, I needed a whole new door lock mechanism. The traces on the PCB still looked great though (good enough to give to somebody else!)

On the others, it was just crappy soldering. The traces were corroded, so it was just a matter of some jumper wires and all was good.

Didn't take too long to do. I'd reccomend getting the 'special tool' required for removing the door lock mechanism bolts from the door (star-shaped tool thing. --at least trade Volkstech a case 'o beer for it for the weekend! )
