  • Turbo Anyone??

    Hey Guys,

I have been thinking of putting a turbo into my 1994 Jetta GL 2 litre. School is keeping me more then busy, so I haven't had time to do any research, so I thought I would ask those who love VW's. Does anyone know what an approx cost would be, and what might need to be done? Thanks

    Cheers,

    Rich

2.0L 8v turbo is a hobby project only IMO. What I mean by this is that it is never worth it to build a 2.0L turbo unless you just want to do it for the fun of it or to learn something etc. Otherwise its going to almost always be better to sell your car and buy a similar car with a faster engine.

That being said, here is about what you would need:

Turbocharger (T3/internal WG is what I would recommend)
    8V Turbo Manifold
    Exhaust Downpipe
    Oil Feed/Return/Fittings/Flanges
    Inlet Piping and Filter
    Blow Off Valve
Fuel Injectors and/or Fuel Pressure Regulator
    Intercooler
    Intercooler Piping
    Fuel Management and/or Programming and/or Stand-alone

If you have a stock exhaust you might also want to consider a complete exhaust replacement.

    Good luck!

I can't provide much input but if you want to have a look around a little check out the MK1 forum on Vortex. The reason I say that is that the 2.0 crossflow is a REALLY popular engine swap into mk1's and lots of guys have gone one step further and turbo'd them. The mk3 forum has a couple guys that have done it but most people with 2.0's just swap in a VR and call it a day.

As always though, in terms of price and simplicity, the neuspeed supercharger will always win out over a turbo but the gains are not as good and they are not as "cool" in that you can't tune them and tweak them which is what a lot of gearheads like about turbo projects.

You can also get a kit that has everything you need, ATP and EIP sell them.

          ATP Kit

          EIP Kit

I think there the most known kits.

Lots of threads on vwvortex too.

I forgot about the bbm supercharger kit too, it also has three stages so you can always upgrade..
