  • Possibly stupid question (Jetta 1.8T)

    He Guys,
I have a friend here at work that asked me about a problem she has been having with her Jetta, and I had no clue. First of all, what is the light that looks like a squiggly line with a flag in it? Keep in mind this is a description from a person that knows nothing about cars...and I havent taken a look at it yet.
Apparently it has been going off and is starting to annoy her. I dont think my car has this light, so I had no idea what it was. ( Not that I would remember my car.. still dont have it back since July)
Is this something I can reset with my VAG? ANy other ideas? She thought is was something to do with car temp.....
Is it the engine coolant light?

possibly temp light. low coolant level or high temp can trigger it. low coolant = add coolant, if it gets low again there is a problem. high temp = failing waterpump/thermostat (and a couple other things)...

I think the owner's manual should solve this little mystery.... ?

I'd check mine but I am at work :(

        Isn't it the ASR light?
If the wheels are slipping, the light will flash indicating that the "traction control" system is cutting back throttle to reduce wheelspin.

If your friend is perhaps slipping a bit on the icy roads, then yeah this light will flash on and off all the time. Very normal!!

Press the ASR button that's near the middle of the dash (near the Hazard switch). The light in the instrument cluster will go ON after you press it, indicating that the traction control system is OFF (press the botton again and the light will go OFF, indicating the system is turned on again). At least you can press this button to see if it's the same instrument cluster light!
