Hey,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get your car appraised. I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea since my jetta is not your average jetta anymore.

take KBB value of car.. add mods - 1000 for deprecication of mods= price

thats my guess anyways.. i dunno how an appraiser is going to know how much a certain body piece costs without going on the web..

Mods don't add value. In lots of cases mods actually devalue cars.

I was think about the new paint and body work that I had done, would that devalue a car also?

yea pretty much.. if they asked why you repainted they'd probably assume previous damage or rust or something..

New paint definitely doesn't add much value (IE: It may be a reason for someone to purchase your car instead of any other they may be looking at, but it's definitely no reason to charge more for it.)

ya, i wouldnt worry too much. You gotta be pretty highly modded to get big hassle from insurance co's

But if you're trying to get a 'replacement value' for your insurance company, all mods DO add value.

Give Mr. Norm Flanders a call. PM me for his number, or look it up in the phone book. Seriously -- he does appraisals. His forte is muscle cars, but he did R28's (I think that's his username) quattro golf earlier this year...

I think the approach is keep all your receipts for your modifications as backup in the unfortunate event that you need to deal with the insurance company on the value of the car.

I'd been told once that they'd give me x% of what I'd paid for a swaybar and aftermarket wheels. I think X was more or less a depreciation adjustment.
