  • Relief at the pumps.....kinda

It's nice to see that gas prices are starting to come back down a bit. I was able to fill up the GLI and the wife's Beetle for 89.5 (premium) and 78.5 (regular) over the weekend. Regular at 78.5 is the lowest I've seen it in months. Anyone else find cheaper?

      Ditto to Ryan's comments!!!

I filled up on Sat. at a small station in a Ranchlands strip mall, for 83.4, and thought I was doing great!! It's 87.4 at the Esso stations!!! Maybe that "78" was a typo??

Co-op Gas Bar, 17th ave. on Saturday morning. Drove by yesterday and it was still only 81.5 IIRC.

Smart comment, shows what you know about the prices. The oil companies have almost NO affect on pricing..the Pricing is dictated by the market. Sure they sell it on the market, but most dont actively go out there and set the highest prices.. they take the day average price, or the price at the time and thats what they sell it for. They do not go out and set prices. If no one bought O&G at certain prices, the price woud lower. The price went up because of a lower supply, or people thiking there will be a lower supply. (Supply/demand)
If a stock goes down for no other reason then market, are you going to go down and punch Presidents or CEO's? Its the markets fault, not the executives..

Note: executives can control supply. For example, shutting down a refinery, or choosing to ship product by different methods within Canada (truck, rail, pipe). Just one company's decisions (in particular, the large volume majors, Esso, Shell, etc) can effect the overall city-wide or province-wide supply for all gas companies. These executives (or their underlings) in fact know ahead of time (or forecast) how their market decisions will affect the street price...

So they do not set the price but they can control it. There is also discussion about things like supply between all of the gas companies, since they borrow fuel from each other to supply their retailers and customers.

Thanks Mr. Economics. I must have forgot the part where I asked for your opinion on my choice of venting. I also must have forgot about how i , too, passed the 8th grade and understand the concept of supply and demand.

edit: and to add to what Kor said, they also control the price by selling gas at TODAY's oil-barrel price when the oil that they are refining was purchased months and months ago for far less than TODAY's oil barrel price. While this is still supply and demand, its also horse-****.
