  • whats considered new????

    hey newveedubers
i went to the passat premier night at one of the dealerships, did a great job.
good food good drinks..but i actually liked the jetta better, for about
32,000 bucks you get a pretty good hookered up vehicle.my question is
the vehicle i want to buy has 450 km's on it,that's a lot of test drives
    should'nt it be classified as a loaner/demo.??

    here's another one
they explained to me warranty does'nt start untill time of purchase and when
i asked would they extend the warranty for an additional 450 kms they were
dumbfounded,i asked why not 4 years and 80,450 kms.

where would you guy's draw a line to mileage when purchasing a "NEW"
    vehicle..

Who ever you talked to may have his / her facts wrong. If I were you I would talk to one of our staff at SCFC and we can get you int o a great car at a great price. (Plug, Plug.) PM me if interested.

      Re: whats considered new????

A car is not considered a demo or used until it is registered with VW. Whenever a car is sold all your info is sent to VW with the info of the car. it is then registered to "you" at that date it is recieved and at the amount of km's the person entered when it was registered. So no cars should be registered with 0km's. If you bought a car with 500kms your warranty is from the date it is bought and the warranty will go until 80500km. Whenever i sent one in i always double checked the km's so the customer had the max warranty coverage!

        yah what Gumby said.

my first VW (99.5 Golf) was "new" since I was the first registered owner, even though it 5000km on it (the dealership owners wife drove it).

my car had a whopping 12km on it when i bought it so ya 450 i'd consider it a demo car but yes your warranty should include that extra 500km

did they give you any kind of a discount, that's a lot of k's on a supposedly
              new car.

i think after the responses i'am not taking anything over 50km's tops..
i want a new car not a demo..no matter what the dealer says about their
              version of what new is..

              thanks for the PM'S

                Re: whats considered new????

I wouldn't buy a car with more than 30 kms on it, especially if it's a manual. People bag on cars when test driving, especially not breaking it in properly, slipping clutch cause they are learning manual. My wife got her first lesson in a test drive car, and you bet your ass I didn't buy that one.

Subaru had the right idea - they had a couple mule WRXs as the test drivers to get a feel for the engine etc, and the rest were forbidden to be driven until you bought.

yes there was significant discount because of the KM, but it was still classified as NEW to VW Canada

                    Re: whats considered new????

Hay GTX. Haha. I got the invitation too and was there at SFC on Friday night. I think the event seems way too formal and make some potential customers uncomfortable. Funnier thing was no test drive at the Passat event. Isn’t that a car should be driven by people? Anyhow, I met a family’s friend at the event. Since VW brand is new to them, I guess I have convinced themselves with the new Passat B6 on both quality and style.

Back to your post. IMHO 450km driven cannot even consider as a new car. Perhaps, you can call it is new ownership by you. If the price from the dealership willing to reduce due to the km driven isn’t HUGE, I recommend you don’t do it.

If you wonder why not consider the sale as a used vehicle then you need to understand the facts that the dealership will earn more credits/profits to sell a new vehicle to a new customer. Remember, there are two lists for car prices: new car wholesale price & used car wholesale price. Once the vehicle ( here is VW brand and other brands may very ) arrived at the dealership it is their property. They can do whatever they want to including start driving the car and swapping parts around. In this case it is still true that you will get the proper warranty period because VW will not initiate the warranty period until the vehicle is registered to an owner other than the dealership. Now, you wonder what if the new car sits at the dealership lot without moving for 6 months. Will they follow the recommend maintenance period? No, other than works on the recalls.

where would you guy's draw a line to mileage when purchasing a "NEW"
                    vehicle..
As long as the car you are going to pick up has the similar KM driven, like the same batch of vehicles delivered to the same location(dealership). In that case, I have no doubts.

                      Re: whats considered new????

I consider new under 100k. My 05 golf had 91k on it, and I was a little hesitant about it. 450k is too much if you're paying close to list price.

                        Re: whats considered new????

In all reality, even 450km isn't that much. I agree that they should be willing to move a bit on the price because of it, but it is only 0.3% of the kms you will put on the vehicle. (Well, probably even less, I assumed 150000 kms no problem.)

When I bought my new golf, it had 111km on the odometer; and I didn't think twice about it. I just thought back to when I was given the opportunity to take these cars for a test drive (Even an overnight test drive was offered.). Besides, it still had that new car smell

Remember - don't use the cruise control and VARY your RPMs. Don't cruise at 100 km/hr for the trip back, slow down to 70 for a bit then go 120. Keep it below 4K if you believe in a soft break in.
