  • Anybody running 19" rubber?

Hi, new here and new to VW with my GTI VR6. I have the stock 225/45 17's on there now and "thinking" about going to 235/35 19's... I'm happy with the ride now but worried about getting too stiff on these. has anybody here gone through this upgrade path already that could offer comments to me?

    Thanks

    Tom

    lots of people use 19s..

the ride will be more affected by the suspension youd have to do so that your car wouldnt look ridiclous with 19inch wheels on it that it would by the tires with less sidewall

werd to that. 19"s on stock suspension look horrible.

Okay, then maybe some opinions on them, I found a guy down in the U.S. with same car, same color, same rims even though he's missing some mods that I have it's pretty close to what mine would look like. He has no suspension mods.
What's the vote on looks? .. hope the upload of pics worked.

P.S. does anybody here have a GTI with 19's on now?

                Re: Anybody running 19" rubber?

As mentioned a lot of people on here run 19's.

I used to have 19's but I went back to 18's because I wanted a little less wheel weight and slightly softer rubber.

However, 19's are not intolerable at all. They do look the best.

                  ...in your opnion

Some 19s look WAY too big on MKIV's imo, some look badass (milanos for example) but others look like crap (A8 wheels..HuGe!)

Kor, was there much diff. between the 19's and 18's with road feel? I was thinking of leaving the Z rubber on 17's now and going with slightly softer V rubber on 19.

                    Thanks

With so little sidewall between your rim and the road on 19's I would stick with the harder rubber. Especially on our roads (assuming you are in Calgary)

19" or die. Only way I would choose something smaller would be if they are some crazzzy nice/wide wheels or if I was super hella low (ie: craig40v style).
As for driving on Calgary roads, no problem. Was so worried about it but after a while you just get used to it. Calgary roads are not bad by any standard IMO. Believe me, when I come home every time from Saskatoon to Calgary you feel like you're on the autobahn once you hit Calgary haha. Its just SOOO smooth. Not a single kathump or anything, damn I miss home haha.

As for that pic you posted, that whip needz to be dumpz0red yo.

i think you need to stay here longer than and give 16th,downtown and NW crowchild a drive and see if you like thumps then.. i'm tempted to go back to 17s soon

nah I represent the south playa, never am up in d0z areas y0 ahaha.
The worst **** I experienced this summer was when Macleod was all torn up south of Canyon Meadows. Damn it was like that ALL FREAKING SUMMER and last year too, thats the only time I've really had to slow the HELL down and have people stare at me when going over the dips/rises in the road....and I don't think they actually finished the damn thing until my summer holidays were over. Then they ripped up Shawnessy nicely and had manhole covers sticking out for like 3 months argh. Other than the usual construction BS I don't think we can really complain given our weather conditions and everything else that destroys the roads. Yeah some roads are not super great, but there is definately places that are 1000000x worse.
Summary: 19"+ on Calgary roads = perfectly fine.
