Sent an e-mail to VW Canada, stating I was less than happy to find out from another reputable dealership, that the $950 estimate for new front strut mounts and new shocks by NLV, turned out to be false--nothing needs to be replaced.. This is the 3rd incident to happen to me, to make me doubt NLV, and this latest one may be the final nail in the coffin.. My Jetta has been going to NLV for 17 years... I'm still shaking my head....

Yea, probably not, but I wanted to do SOMETHING... Hey, if I'm gonna get worked over, a couple of hundred might get ok'd, but $1000??? That's getting greedy.. For that kind of coin, NL figures I'm not getting any other estimates??? Right...........

I HATE hearing stuff like that! I wonder if they were wearing masks when they handed you the estimate. It's crap like that that makes reputable dealer techs and dealers look bad. Man am I pissed!

$950 for stock front shocks and mounts. Holy shiat batman, what a scam. Even the nicest aftermarket shocks could not run that much.

                Actually back on topic....

I had a really bad incident with NLV. I won't get into the details, but the next day VW head office phones me up for the standard survey......

Hello Mr. Red90 how was your service at NLV the other day.

Well Mr. VW it sucked eggs, they didn't fix anything despite me telling them EXACTLY what was wrong and how to fix it.

Oh, I'm very sorry Mr. Red90, I will investigate.....

About an hour later NLV is phoning me up apoligizing left, right and center. Telling me I don't need an appointment and bring the car by anytime and they will work on it immediately. So this time they must have found a tech with an IQ above 100 and that new how to read, because they replaced what I told them to replace.

Don't get me started, I have lots of good stories about that place.....

                      A Horror Stories section. Haha..

I would look at your situation like this. First, you are welcome to shop around until you can find a place that you are comfortable with. Second, for mechanical diagnostic there are possibilities to end up with different conclusions by different tech. And if you quote the job with everything OEM parts then no doubt of the huge bill.

Hay, if you are really not happy with the guys from the North, maybe is time to visit the Enzo Dave at the South.

VW Canada phoned me this morning--they had talked to Northland VW, and NL stands behind their finding of leaking shocks and worn strut mounts, even though I was shown that my shocks weren't leaking, and told the strut mounts weren't loose. I was invited to bring my car in, so Northland could show me why they stand behind their findings. Basically, VW Canada made some phone calls, did what they were supposed to do, and that was that. The guy didn't seem concerned that I was less than happy about what happened, or how I now viewed NLV... I guess NLV's loss is now Fountain Tire's gain..
