  • Suggestion on Tires!

Its that time again, the one that we as dubbers hate the most, WINTER.

Im out lookin for a new pair of tires on my steelies and was wondering if anyone could suggest a good brand or company that i could go to and have a look?!

Ill be lookin for All-season tires since im not sure if im getting new shoes come next spring. So anything would be greatly appriciated.

EDIT: This is also for my 2000 GOLF GLS.

      BF Goodrich Traction T/A's

      Allseason tire, good for winter.

I got these on right now, have put 10k on em, and thus far they have been pretty good.

Blizzaks are definitely good for a winter tire. I still am on LM-22's.

Yes we have these on some of the family's Pontiacs, they are an OK all season tire, and I would buy them again (for a Pontiac). Better than some I have driven on!

But nowhere even close to a winter tire in the snow/ice nor a summer tire on dry/wet.

So the guy asked for an all season tire and you guys suggest a winter tire.

How about the Nokian WR. Certainly the best snow and ice performance of any all season tire.

                  Oops you're right.

I think lots of people like the Nokians.

                    Re: Suggestion on Tires!

I like the Kumho on my VW because of the affordable price and they have the grip on snow & ice I want. In my case I almost go through a set per season, even if the tires looks not too bad I still change to a new set.

Imagine you only need to pay half as much for the big brand (ie. Bridgestone) but you can enjoy a fresh set of snow tires every year? If not that you change the tires every year, you will save some money for other things.

Red90 it is alright if they suggested winter tires, i will take anything into consideration.

Also has anyone seen the Blue GETTA around calgary and does the guy have NVD?

                        Re: Suggestion on Tires!

I have Nokian WR's. The biggest drawback is the cost. And the fact that they lose air faster than any tire I have ever owned.

They are fantastic in the winter (great on snow, better than regular a/s on ice), awesome treadwear...the compromise is handling and road noise (my Continental 4000H's were whisper quiet compared to these and outhandled them handily, even though the 4000H is the worst tire Continental has ever made).

As for cost, Kal-Tire I think is the only dealer, and 4 tires (205/65/15) cost me 800.00...which is actually not that bad when I think about it. But I'm a cheapskate.

If you do want the separate winter tire route, then have a search and read a post from a few weeks back. It covered things quite well. Personelly, my cars have all switched to separate winter tires and I would never look back. The only caveat would be if you run a lot of highway miles in winter, as the winter tires wear pretty quick on dry pavement (maybe 40000 kms maximum).
