  • Damn construction zone lane jogs........

So I was driving home from buying stuff, and the lanes jog at the end of crowchild by stoney tr.....There was tons of traffic over the lunch hour, and people (apparently myself included now) had some trouble navigating this in a single group......I ended up scuffing the back end of a Smart car......Now, I'll admit when I was wrong, and rightfully so in this case.....The guy was apparently angry at first, came out and said it was 2G's in damage!!!! I gave him the "be reasonable" speech, and he came down a bit.....Anyhow, its a scuff, and to reiterate how little damage there was, you can barely see a scratch on my front fender.....So, I imagine I will be raked over the coals for this, I'm waiting to hear what the "estimate" will be, and I'll ask to see the written portion for obvious reasons....at worst, a respray of that small "fender" piece.....Pics for your viewing pleasure! Keep in mind, the camera shows it worse than in person...I'm not including pics of my car because thats how insignificant it is!

Edit: I actually got the "its built by mercedes you know" line.....
2nd edit.....Damn tinypic and their image resizing, I had much higher res ones....

all the construction along crowchild is starting to get to me too.. thats how i was rear ended was from that lane jogging crap.. so you bumped him as you were slightly moving sideways then? it'll cost probably 500 to fix i bet .. my puny damage by a 'normal' body shop was 700!!!

Well I will tell you that Phat Red Smart Panels are not painted they are full coloured plastic so I am not sure if you will be able to just buff it out, or paint to cover or have to by a new fender piece. Anyway just thought I would put my Smart info out and hope it works out ok for you!

Great... so I will be screwed......nice to know! I'm sick of the construction....period.....

Ryan, he was moving toward me, still in his lane, I just didn't move over enough, so technically where the lanes move, I crossed the line......sucks...

Well, prelim elstimate is $320 clams, I phoned Hyatt earlier and they said that part in black is $182, so that jives up with labour and such.....He said they'll pull apart on oct 24th to see if there is any "real damage", I'm confident there isn't as there was no impact there.....but I guess......

Now, I was thinking about it, and I drove back through the zone again, I wouldn't have wandered into that lane, I drove pretty straight and stayed on my side.....Also, I recall seeing the smart have its signal light on, and he mentioned a large truck....I'm beginning to think there was more involved than "me hitting him" type of thing....Of course, its my word vs. his, but I truly think he may have been executing an unsafe lane change at the same time......I know it will never fly, and I should just take it up the ass and forget about it, but I'm clean when it comes to driving, I'm just not a lane wanderer..............*sigh*....

Did you say you hit him when it happened? if he was merging into your lane then he hit you (or you hit each other) then he would be liable for some of the damge right?
Go back and take lots of pics!
