  • MKIV Golf Stereo

Ok, picked up my new '06 MKIV golf from 5th yesterday. Looking to upgrade the stereo, but need to know what is where. I'm leaving factory speakers in for now, and just swapping deck, wiring sub, wiring new deck to factory speakers. I have the double DIN Monsoon stereo in there now. At some point in the spring I will be adding a new amp and seperates all the way around, but for the time being... The deck I am getting is a Panasonic CQ-C7401U. It has 3 pairs of pre-outs, 5Volts each, for F, R, S. I can also get the factory wiring harness adapter, antenna adapter and dash filler for switching to a single DIN deck. The amp\sub is a rockford punch 800a2 and an Alpine 12" type R, and I know how to wire all of it in, just know what is involved with dealing with the factory stereo. Any help will be very much appreciated!!!

Is there a factory amp in here somewhere?
    Where?
If so, how can I integrate it in (for the time being) or work around it?
Anything else I need to be aware of?

    Thanks in advance!!

uhh amp is in the trunk.. swapping monsoon to aftermarket you'll have to replace all the speakers, etc as they have funky impedances.
ps.. congrats on the new car

          Congrats on the new car!

I put in an order for a 2006 Golf too, but it won't be here for a while yet. I was going to ask a few stereo questions too, but you pretty well covered it all with yours. I too have almost the exact sub you have too so you have impecable timing.

I was hoping to keep the factory stereo in there however but am unsure if there is a pre-out on the factory unit. Do you know if it has one or more? Maybe when you take everything out of there, if you wouldn't mind, let me know what is all on that bad boy? That would very cool! Please keep me posted on your progress too! Very cool

I doubt there would be pre-outs on the factory unit, but there are lots of amps available now that will take line level input.

              Re: MKIV Golf Stereo

Stupid question time. I'm looking to add a sub to my monsoon system in my 05 golf, however I cannot locate the factory amps that everybody tells me are in the cubbies in the back. All that is back there is a CD changer bracket, where my phatbox will soon be mounted.

Honestly, I rather like the monsoon system just as much as any aftermarket deck I've ever owned, I just want to add a sub, so I was hoping to add a HPF to the factory amps, and split the inputs to one of them to feed my amp/sub. Where can I find these amps, since they're definately not where I've looked :(

Anyhoo, you guys mention the factory speakers having funky impedances, as long as they're not below 4 ohms, they can be driven from pretty much any amp. I wonder what they do about a crossover for the door speakers though.
Just what are the impedances of the factory speakers?

Don't play with the factory set-up unless you want major brain damage. My $0.02.

No amp no monsoon, it is pretty easy to add an amp though. Just buy an amp with high level inputs to make the job easy.

                    Re: MKIV Golf Stereo

Weird. The manual says I have the monsoon system, it's the GLS model, it has 8 speakers, etc. It also looks like the monsoon head unit. What stereo do I have then?...

It would have been nice if it had external amps, as I could use low-level HPF filters going into their amps, and split the inputs to one to run my sub and amp. Now I have no way to drop the lows off of the door speakers. I don't even know if anybody makes a high-level HPF filter (let alone an adjustable one). There are ways around it I suppose, but that would cost a lot more than simply adding 1 amp and my sub.
