  • Check engine light- #$%^

My Stupid Check engine light is on! DAMN I go away for two weeks the stupid car sits and when my husband goes to take out out from the Garage it sputters then dies on him. What the HELL? Then the stupid Check Engine light comes one.

Gawd I thought my car troubles were over!

BTW those that don't have a pan heater / blockheater you can buy them from Harbourview Autohaus Volkswagon in Nanaimo BC they will ship for $137.00 for the part a hell of lot better than $400.00 here in Edmonton at the dealerships. I have no idea what they charge in Calgary.

Sorry to hear about your car problems again. Just so you know, the $375 units at the dealership are Recirculating coolant heaters, not oil pan heaters that anyone can buy for $130. Unfortuantely they are more expensive however they have come down in price by around $50 from when they were first introduced!

Interesting I have never heard of a coolant heating system, I would think heating up the oil would be of more bennefit for cold days. Coolant is after all supposed to cool the engine and does its job while cold, while oil is supposed to lubricate it (and does so better when warm).

      Can anyone educate me?

heaters blow warm air right away... warm coolant should indirectly heat the oil too, so you get the benifit of driver comfort as well as avoiding mechanical wear on a cold day. the coolant doesnt get THAT hot.

              HEY Dave,
Your Words of Wisdom please on this Subject? BY the Way my Check engine light finally went off! I bet it is that stupid Temperature sensor again for my gas tank or something like that. It is doing the same signs as before when i had this problem in BC.

It just Frustrates me to no end I tell ya! Loved my heated seats this morning on way into town for a workshop.

coolant is designed to transfer the engines' heat to the radiator. the oil then has to rely on that heat transfering to it. i like to heat the oil. its viscosity changes way more than coolant in the cold. at -30 it can take up to 60 seconds to get oil flow to the top end of the motor. depending on the oil you use. it starts nicer and warms up plenty fine for me. i've used both on the same car for shits and giggles. i can wait for heat in the car, not the tow truck.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3
