No free lunch with windshields. If it's hard it pits less but is more prone to cracking. If it's soft you get billions of pits but harder to crack.

I drive deerfoot everyday, and only 1 chip in 60K. But when the sun glares through I can totally see all the pits.

Glassmasters mobile service did my beater, I got a very good installer.

Make sure if you go to Payless next to Rudy's that you specify if you want Securit. I'm sure they will give you a good price, as the price for my rear 1/4 window was far cheaper than anywhere else in the city for a Securit window. I had to tell them that was what I wanted, as the Security is typically more expensive than the Chineese versions, and may not match the dot matrix or grey/black band on the top of a windshield. Not necessarily a big deal, but a fat blue strip on the top of my old MKIII golf (black) did not look good, and I insisted they replace it with a different windshield.

Yes, I'd agree. My OEM shield is pitted to all H*ll and has 3 cracks in it. Personally, I don't think the Deerfoot is discriminatory when it comes to windshields. Let me know when those "diamond hard" windshields come out on the market though!

My stock windshield got a bullseye from every rock that hit it. Now at 34000 km the windshield is cracks from side to side twice! I think I will try one of those $199 Crystal Auto Glass deals.

IMO every windshield will be pitted, I will replace my windshield every 24-36 months regardless of if it has any cracks, just because I want the visibility. I love looking through the windshield when its brand new!!!

FYI, for the guys out of town, Darryl's in Cochrane is usually about $25 more than Crystal on anything I have changed there. However, he offers free chip injection for the life of the windshield. Which if you do it once, the difference is paid for. And no, he is not my cousin. Never met the guy. All I ever do is leave the vehicle the night before and pick it up the next evening. 5 windshields there so fa and not one leak or complaint.

BTW, Kuhli, thanks for introducing me to this forum. See the post on what I found in the intake. I am going to send it up to Fort McMurry to run it through the tar sands extraction process!
