  • Windshield replacement recommendation

I did a pretty thorough search, and found others have used Kings and Payless successfully.

Any other suggestions for a good place to replace the windshield on my 2000 Beetle? Damn gravel trucks on deerfoot - sure, they put covers on, but the covers don't stop them from losing rocks at 110km over bumps!

got mine at kings. good price, but my mirror ended up about an inch lower... makes that cool sun visor useless.

i think $325 with everything in, something like that.

yes there are cheaper chinese windows you can get places in town for like even $199 installed or something like that. but then again, glass is glass right? is the german more resistant to cracking then chinese?? that would be the deciding factor...

I wouldn't be convinced....with how fast wondshields get cracked here, not sure it matters!

There is a huge difference in windshield glass qualities. I paid 325 all-in too and I think I did mine just a few weeks after/before Bart.

I'd like to add that I have had mine for 1.5 years and have only 1 chip and no cracks or anything, and if you've seen my bumper you know that I am not shy of rocks

Payless is the place by Rudy's. I was there picking up some picture frame glass & the guy saw the NVD sticker & mentioned that he had done a few NVD cars. They are really good there.

I am convinced that the OEM windsields are better than others. I am suprised at some of the hits both my Jetta and my golf before have taken. I have 57000 km on my 03 Jetta, and there are not cracks despite taking aome pretty good dings. I even had a bolt hit my windshield on Deerfoot one day & it only left a little chip.

Personally I think the OEM windshield quality is terrible...I've got a zillion pits in mine after 20,000 km...having said that, my experience has been that the aftermarket ones are even worse.

I'd pay money for a diamond hard windshield that doesn't pit...just not as much as you'd have to pay for the diamonds...
