  • Just an Observation

Ive now have had my 2002 Passat for 4 months and had a chance to
visit 2 dealerships for warranty work..Service was alright but nothing to
write home about. My wife commented on the clothes the Service Manager
wore, one guy looked like he shops at value village and the other needs
to visit a tailor so his clothes fit..both dealerships in Calgary..
so her conclusion was (since she works retail)in some positions you can tell
what service you will receive..by the attire..

    Your thoughts...

Hmmmm, don't know about being able to tell what you're about to get by the clothes they wear....I personally have a family friend that is a surgeon in Chicago, and trust me, he dresses like a complete bum....but I guess it gets covered up by the white coat

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that anyone right now can get a job almost anywhere with little to no education and make more then they do?? I hear that places like HMV etc are even paying upwards of $12 an hour as they are so desperate for people.

If I walked in and my SA was in a suit, I'd probably run away. I expect one step above a mechanic. Which means they need to be clothed. This rule is of course optional for the cute female junior SA at Northland.

So what happens if you go to a small town shop where the mechanic is the advisor?? Can you believe it?? My old advisor used to have oil stains on his clothes... on his face even! (and my car was still fixed properly, in a friendly, informative environment)

                  i say open the cover....

Hey, I was late for work and didn't have time to shave this morning. I was tempted to do sloppy work, as to coincide with my disheveled apperance, but damned if I wasn't able to work hard and produce good results. I did feel a little ashamed when I got the coffee stain on my pants, but I worked through lunch to make up for it because the stain really made the quality of my work deteriorate.
You think it's not noticable when you have superficial personalities in management positions? Good looking staff might be good marketing ploy to bring in customers, but it isnt going to be enough to keep them coming back.

HAHAHA you should see our IT dept. Last two companies I've worked for, I've worn jeans and golf shirts, but often tshirt. And in the summer it's shorts and flip flops. I even wear a speedo (not the tight kind bozos) to work when it's really hot. If it's dressup day I'll wear dockers and a golf shirt.

I honestly can't even tie a tie anymore.

you have no idea what i do or what teams i manage

although come to think of it, my crew doesn't dress that well... I dont think it is because they are trying to be like me though.

anyhow, as this is no longer VW related, I'll end my comments here.

Personally I think Attitude to me is more important than how people dress. The Southgate dealership here they are are dressed nice and are very professional to me.
