Removal of this trim piece?

Anyone know how to remove the black plastic surrounding base that is around the shift knob and ashtray area? I don't just mean the ring around the shift boot, I mean the whole big base piece?

Here Kris, I scanned this from the Bentley manual. Hopefully It'll give some idea of how it comes apart.
