Melted Piston!

O.k. here's the story, my wife has been complaining of our Eurovan running rough, using oil and stalling occasionally. I didn't think much of it untill I did a compression test on it. 195psi for the first 4 and a mind boggling 30psi in the 5th! I removed the engine and disassembled it with the help of my apprentice.
Look what I found!


Busted rings and the crown is melted!


The ring land is gone!


Some carbon holding the piston together!


Can't really see the scratch in the cylinder wall, it's that small.
You can feel it with your finger nail.


Can you guess which cylinder is #5? Looks like I got lucky on this one!

The cylinder wall is o.k. just a small scratch in cylinder 5. looks like I can bead hone that out. Man was I lucky. Parts will come to about $900. One piston alone is $250!

Anyone have parts connections? I need cheaper parts.

Now that looks like a toasty marshmelow! I am suprised that the piston costs that much, atleast you can get away with just a hone in the cylinder.

i know your a tech but that cylinder has to be screwed..
at least oval..if not your the luckiest dude around..

I should go buy a lotto ticket then eh. The cylinders were mint after I honed them. better than factory...

You should have replaced that piston with a 11:1 piston for a little more zip.

I need more zip. I need the van back on the road to transport the troops (kids).
I am so interested in doing a project with this thing! No one besides concept has a bling bling Eurovan in town.

Does C1 own that blue van with the body kit? I was talking to the owner last year at das volks an he was talking about sllingit... it was soo nice.

any idea how it happened, I wrecked a motor once by driving it after the fan/enginebelt broke which in turn overheated the engine, because there was no waterpump. rings siezed on one piston and gouged out the cylinder wall.

It was awhile ago so I don't remmeber. I do know he payed something crazy for the body kit as it was shipped straight over from germany!
