Here is what Canadian Black Book says

Depending on your vehicle's condition, the value may be appraised within the High and Low range. * less Reconditioning Costs

    Low: $1,915.00 High: $3,610.00

Now I would bump it up a little bit because its diesel...
But the damage and the parts that it needs might be a bit expensive.

The black book will give you a TRADE IN VALUE not a PRIVATE SALE value...
Some of the other guys on here might have opinions on this car but I am gonna go with a "NOT WORTH IT"

seems a little steep for me...

add on the fact that you'll have to repair the body and do the clutch, I'd say $5g's tops!

      Not quite stock anymore...

Yeah dont really look at the black book price as that is what the stealer ship will rip you off for when you are trying to trade it in... that being said the clutch is a BIG job on the jetta's from what I have been told, and by the time you have gotten in to do the clutch you are better off doing the time CHAIN (not the belt) as well. I went through this whole thing when I was looking at VR6's... found a great one but it needed a clutch and after talking with LOTS of people I decided to hold off as the work was not worth it. ($9500 car + $2500 of work = save for a MKIV TDi)

And is the 96 is not a TDi right (not turbo)? Which will limit the amount of power you will get from it (no chip for you)... Ask some of the TDi guys on here (Simon, Bart, Brent) they can give you a better idea.

        As a price point I paid $9500 for a 97 VR6 GLX with 140,000 KM on it

(I think the seller thinks the side skirts are worth $3000)

^ 96 is TD (Turbo Diesel) 97+ is TDI (Turbo Direct Injection)
Either way like Flanders said... ~5g's max.

I would have to say that a shade under 10G's is frickin' rediculous! No way is that car worth that much, especially with the damage and repairs you listed. Keep looking, or save for a newer model

I don't think so, I thought that at first too but I think that car has just been around the VWDOV for a while, so the guy selling it now just linked an old for sale thread with pics.

I'm also fairly sure that it wouldn't come with those wheels as they were being sold seperately.
