  • APR yes or no.

    Hi all,

I have been away from newveedub for a while, but I'm back,
and would like a little advice.

I'm thinking of chipping the car.
last year I tried out the APR 6hour trial, and thought it was great.

What I was curious about is if I decide to do that, would I have to
change anything else in the car.

Also, should I go with some other chip brand?
Is APR worth it for the money?
Who here has APR that could give me some great advice?

    Thanks.

There are a couple of people on the boards (Ryan and myself for sure) that use the APR software. I personally love mine, but can't honestly say that I've experienced other brands. I know that others are very happy with Upsolute which Simon (Boy Racer) can supply for you. Maybe PM him and get some details on that software as well.

The only other part that I really found that I needed after chipping with APR was a new N75 valve. I went with the N75J and found that it got rid of alot of surging. I also added a Forge 007 DV, but mostly for the sound, as I didn't really notice any difference in performance.

Edit: APR is also considerably more expensive than other brands (especially Upsolute), so that might make your decision for you.

I think all the chips are pretty much the same, everyone has their favourite (usually the only one they have tried).

So should I replace the N75 valve before I chip or after.
Also were can I pick one up and how much?

As far as APR and Upsolute, I know with APR you can turn it off/on, can you with Upsolute? Just worried about the dealer intervention. lol.

You think the dealer doesnt know how to turn on your APR? If they want to check they will know.

If I had a 1.8t I would probably go with upsolute... if only for the "bang-for-buck" factor.

yea bang for buck upsolute is the way to go.. the thing i liked about my APR was the ability to switch gas programs on the fly which is cool and it drove like stock no issues no surging no nothing which is good.. now that i'm getting heavier into engine mods this winter it seems like a waste of money spending 1000 on a chip because my current chip won't work with a big turbo setup so i have to get a new one .. oh well

Ok well I think for the price,
I just called C1 and they said with tax just under $1000
so I think I'll go Upsolute can't remember what the price is?
                  Are they any links?

                  Thanks

                        just under $1000???
Man I got my APR DPP done for $749, includes Stock mode, FCE & TBA. We don't have 93 octane in the maritimes so that might be the difference.....lucky bastards

                          Re: APR yes or no.

I love my APR. But I don't intend to upgrade turbo, and I bought a vagcom.

Stock, 91, 93 programs, switchable via cruise buttons. Can lock the chip so you cannot change anything unless you know the magic up up down down code that you select. I run 94, so the boost is at 104% timing back .5 degrees. When I was in radium there was no 94/93 so switched program to 91 and grabbed whatever. Then switched back when in CY. If you go to Sask, there's no 93/94 there.

With a laptop/vagcom cable you can set boost higher depending on altitude, make minor timing adjustments, change your idle speed, plus a bunch of other stuff I don't touch. If you are leaving the car with a non-VW mechanic or loaning it to your ******* brother, you can quickly set the speed limiter to 100km to prevent joy rides, etc.

But is it worth paying double over Upsolute? Probably not if you just want to go faster. But I personally like all the toys. And if you don't have a laptop/vagcom then Revo gives you most of the flexibility for a little cheaper.

yea i like mine.. i leave it chipped all the time so the stock mode was kinda a waste i'm tempted to do a k04 or something instead of a true BT to save money on software cuz its only like 200 bucks for a k04 upgrade file but meh i'm done with my bucket for a while.. ps.. parts 4 sale people..
