  • Just when I think I am out, the rims pull me back in

Today I came across a really nice set of CUP 2 Porsche rims. Now not to play out the Porsche rims (sorry Jason ) But will A they fit? And B am I looking at mad fender work?

Here are the stats, and yes he is selling with 5x100--5x130 adaptors

    17x7.5" front
    17x9.5" rear

Input? Pictures of them on a MKIII jetta ?

Well we would need to now the offsets and size of adapters to be precise. However I can tell you 17x7.5 is fine on the front assuming the offset is good as that is what the TTs I ran were. Now the rear is another story I think 9.5 is very wide for a MK3, you might be able to make it work but you will for sure need fender work. I ran 17x7.5s all round with a 32 offset and with fenders rolled I rubbed often on coils in the rear.

hahaha if he was to go to $1000 I would really think about it

          (2) 17x9 et 55
          (2) 17x7 et 55

          spacers
          25 or 30mm.

mmm any idea of what this would take?

What was the guy running them on before? Is that his car? Most times I see Porsche wheels like that people have 2 sets of fronts instead of the rears.

I think that you will need either to have your fenders pulled or maybe flares might work but you are still talking abount nearly an extra 2 inches of wheel. It can be done for sure but the cost is the real issue.

Edit Are they 9 or 9.5? A 9 with an offset of 25mm might work with a flare???

Re: Just when I think I am out, the rims pull me back in

I am going to flares anyways as some hit my back fender and it is a lot cheaper to have flares put on then to have the fender taken off and worked on. I will talk with the guy some more.... see what he had to do to his car.

And yes that is his car with the rims on.

Re: Just when I think I am out, the rims pull me back in

Hey, don't worry about me, if you can get them to work then go for it.

I rub a fair bit with my 8's, but at the same time, I wouldn't mind them being a bit wider as they sit inside the fender a fair bit compared to the front.

I would say that they could fit but you might want to think about running coilovers to keep things from rubbing tooooo much. Just a suggestion though.

                  Keep us posted.

Is there any good way to measure this sort of thing?

can someone that knows offsets help me out with this? If I measure 1.5 inches from the outside lip of my rim, wouldn't that be roughly where a 9.5" wide would be? Or does it get split in half? so .75?

I have the same Porsche offest, and have the same size adapter (25mm) but an 8" wheel.

just when I think I have it straight, I get it wrong again.

I would say it get splits half and half as the offset does not change, so the center is the same the new width would be spread out evenly on each side of the center.

Well, IF that's the case then it wouldn't be so bad at all I don't think.

Since you and I have the same suspension we could easily measure it up on your car I think.

BUT....you'll probably rub, but no more than I do i'm sure as my tires have an insanely stiff sidewall, have little to no stretch and are 45 series (you could run 40) and I only REALLY rub now on the side that has a bad bump stop.

Those would look sick on your car I think though.

Edit: everything we need to know is right here my friend.....

I think I am going to do it! Going to look at them in 2 weeks when I am in Van-City... going to do some more research and make sure I dont have to do anything to crazy. Should look good

question: I will have to have my tires stretched, what problems am I going to run into with the stretch

Well after talking on Vortex for like 2 days now about if they will fit I am 90% sure I am going to get them

                              7" in front
                              9" in the back
