Re: farking 105!! for regular gas!!

I don't know why everybody is acting so surprised/complaining about gas prices. As many people above have stated we still pay less for fuel than pretty much anybody. Plus it's not like you didn't know it was going to happen, they have been saying this will happen for over a year now. Not like it made a huge difference... To fill with 91 it still costs me less than $50/ tank (barely)

Yeah, we pay alot of tax on our gas, I had my first 50 dollar fill, and I'm using the cheap gas.

regardless of the fact that they have been telling us gas is going up for a long time, that still doesn't make it right....What if VW stated "our MSRP's are going up by $8000 dollars in the next year", would you complain that VW is charging too much for their cars in that time period?? Just because I tell you I'm increasing the cost of my product by 50% doesn't make it right, and certainly doesn't mean nobody can have an opinion on it....It has to stop eventually...I personally don't give a **** what they pay for gas in Europe and in England...I'm don't live there, so thats not a valid argument...We are talking two different economic situations, and different geographical locations....Booze is a fraction the cost there, as are most groceries....We pay more for that, but does that mean that people in europe say "oh, we still pay less for bread here than they do on the other side of the world, so lets not complain when the price DOUBLES in the time frame of a few years"....Its stupid, and it has little to do with the oil companies, and everything to do with the government. They still make more profit on the gas than the oil companies themselves with taxes....

My point is that whining about it on the internet isn't going to change a damn thing. if you don't like the gas prices, buy a Smart, or a TDI, etc.

EDIT: get used to these prices, becasue they will likely only go up from here.

There is a website you can check gas prices for your area I have seen on the VWDOV board. I should go get that link for myself.

I like to shop around and find good deals.

Ignoring the pump prices which have tax etc, simply look at the price per barrel of oil. Demand for each of those barrels is going up as China has recently exploded with demand. The US is the worlds #1 user, but despite all the bitching, Hummers still are being built and CAFE standards are not being raised.

http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/ is a bit doomday-ish, but the math is correct.

Until such time as the price of gas makes people choose HEVs over non efficient vehicles, prices can only go up. Everyone says "Well if only everyone else would just stop driving as much"...

An article in the States had a woman bitching about gas, as she was filling up her Ford Expedition. I have no sympathy.

Ok time to make cars that run on Canola oil or something like that. After all Isn't canola easy to grow, or Hemp oil? There is a guy on Vancouver island who's Bus runs Diesel and used Canola oil from the Resturants in Victoria. Though i imagine the smell from that type of fuel (canola) would make you very hungry.

There was a pretty interesting Fuel thread on the vortex today (yes, I'm REALLY bored). There was a lot of talk about applying the same tax on SUV's the same as cars (the "gas guzzlers tax") and such, as well as an abnormally high amount of arguments for SUV's (not totally supporting but still).

Anyway, all I could think was. "Well, SUV sales should start declining now that all the hip hop stars have moved to 300's instead of Escalades"

There's a couple people on this site that run biodiesel.

Interesting point though about Canola. I had a conversation with a co-worker not too long ago about "alternative fuel" and Canola came up. The thing is, I think burning Canola would still cost more then burning fossil fuel. Also, you have to look at "Input vs. Output" too. By the time you plow, plant, grow, harvest, sell, manufacture, etc. have you put more energy in to do that then you get out of it? (I'm not really sure, I've considered looking into it). And is it "cost competative"?

Also, Biodiesel, and using old oil is great but the problem with that is it can't service demand. I would expect that if any amount of the Calgary population (even 20%, of diesel guys), it would be impossible to meet that.

That is true but definately something they should be looking more and more into don't you think?

Cost Competative is a very good point.

I wonder how the Biodiesel would work in the cold weather here?

I'm bored what can I say.

in the end i don't mind the prices as my company pays for the gas in my car but i still have to fit the bill upfront before hand.
