  • New B6 Passat

ABS is no longer Bosch(Goodbye) but now TRW. http://www.trw.com

3.6L 4mo 500 lbs more than 2.0T but same size brakes. Stopping distance will be hammered. What is VW thinking? Electronic motors on rear calipers and brake disks wipers.

    No 3.6L manual.

    No sport trim for 2.0T

    No Xenons for 2.0T

3.6 4mo is rated as 4 tenths quicker to 60 (6.2 vs 6.6). FWD model must be tough to launch...??? WTF

PDF specs and features for the new B6 http://www.vw.com/vwcom/content/obje...ssat_specs.pdf

      Re: New B6 Passat

From a guy out here in Ottawa, who just test drove one:

I just test drove a base model B6 with 2.0FSI and tiptronic at VW Vaudreuil and all I can say is WOW! This thing handles like butta and pulls very hard for a boat with a 4 banger.

I drove it at high speed on some highway curves around Vaudreuil and I was amazed at how composed it was (Dan the salesguy made good use of the holy crap handle). No squeels from the tires and reasonable body roll. My B5 does not handle anywhere near as well as the B6 does. Steering was just right. For a big dub it feeled quite agile and very tight.

I was also really surprised at how well the 2.0FSI pulled the big dub around. Not sure that I really need the upcoming 3.6L V6. For a base model the interior looks great. The only thing missing that is important to me is alloy rims and sunroof. Starting price s $33k, with the next notch at about $36k which would include sunroof and rims.

The verdict: This car makes me forget the A6 and B5, no problemo. It has better handling, great power and fun to drive. It's also a great value. I will definitely replace my B5 with a B6 wagon with the next 2 years.

That's good to hear, I like the looks of the new one. There is a wagon in my future just not sure when or what.

On the wagon note my friend went to look at BMW's so I tagged along, they had an AWD 5 series wagon in the showroom. That thing is nice, and it's supposedly coming with SMG in the fall which would be sweet.

          Re: New B6 Passat

I am pretty sure my next car will also be a wagon, but I am not too sure about the B6 wagon. Does any one know if it will have a TDi at some point. I think that the best for for me would be the proposes Jetta wagon or what ever they are going to call it.

I am thinking hard about a wagon too, 1 camping trip was all it took. I am looking for roof racks and a cargo carrier in the mean time.

              I'm leaning towards the A3 2.0T
              It's a pseudo-wagon!

Yes despite the disappointment of no 3-door A3 I think that it is a very awesome wagon type car with a better-than-mk-v interior and good potential.
