Well there is a big rumor in the car biz that VW will premiere the VW Golf GT at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show. So what you say well the car will have a 1.4L Turbo charged engine with a compressor to compensate for lag. The car will have 170hp and close to TDI fuel mileage, sounds like fun!!!!

Sounds pretty cool, but I agree with Kor, I doubt we'll ever see anything like that . I've been waiting a long time for a company to come out with a quick car that still has good gas milage though.Kyle

Re: Turbo or SC Why not have both??
wow, that's Oooooold technology, even the old Semi trucks used a screw type charger with a turbo on end blowing air right into the top. But hey, the combustion engine is old to and it's still being used so why not?
Edit: ok, it's obviously not "old" technology because it will be updated but I remember som of the OLD Detroit Diesels (2 stroke). Man, a 2 stroke supercharged, fed by a turbocharger engine, I can't even imagine how bad that must have smoked!Last edited by Tuna; 08-11-2005, 11:39 AM.Jay

That's one amazing engine bay. Maybe I've been living under a rock, but I've never heard of running a Turbo and a SC at the same time. I like Smarty have been waiting for a nice sporty car that makes good mileage.Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....

There's one! man, I was looking for one this morning. The one I was thinking of was even crazier than that one, the turbo was bolt RIGHT on top of the supercharger.Jay

Re: Turbo or SC Why not have both??
our shop has done a lot of research into twin charging (turbo and SC), and it has basically come down to this:
long and short version......
twin charging is an old technology. it WAS used to get rid of any lag and make almost instantaneous boost without the wait. however since turbos and SC has developed further and you are now able to find the proper turbo inlet and outlet sides to suit exactly what you want to do you are basically able to eliminate turbo lag altogether.
basically you are able to do now what back then took twin charging, now in 1 turbo unit for a FRACTION of the price it would cost to do this kind of setup. for any shop to try and develop a cost effective unit would be suicide. sure its cool as a project 1 off, but you could never mass produce it as the costs are too high and the same power, and response can now be had for a fraction of $$$Team Highschool
