  • Street Tuner Challenge?

Anybody watch this show on Speedvision?

It is horrible!!! The whole premise of the show is a USA vs. Euro vs. JDM shootout....

    The contestants:
    MK V Jetta (Auto)
    Cobalt SS

    and.....

    1993 Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32)

K...um....first we have an I5 FF NA car, mated to an automatic, vs. a 5-speed I4 FF FI (supercharged) car vs. possible the best I6 twin turbocharged, 5-speed, mated to possibly the best AWD system and 4 wheel steering....

In stock trim the R32 would obliterate both cars...what's more, XS Engineering has fully blueprinted the engine, all new suspension (I mean geometry, mounting points, everything)....

And of all things, ABD is doing the Jetta...they've slapped on a devastatingly powerful off-the-shelf sway bar and new shocks and springs...oh and the 900hp imitation carbon-fiber engine cover....yeah. Amazing. As if the matchup wasn't already one-sided, ABD has proven that when faced against overwhelming opposition from a twin-turbo AWD vehicle, the engine cover can make the difference between a win and a loss.

Then, on the cobalt, basically the only thing they are keeping from the cobalt is its engine and are throwing that in a different car's body (basically)....

I don't know if the purpose of the show is to make American and Euro car tuners look like idiots compared to tuners that deal with Japanese cars, but that's what they're doing....As if ABD didn't already have a reputation as the mickey mouse tuner shop of the Euro car world, this show will cement it...

Yea, I tried watching it a couple weeks ago and it was on repeats for some reason? Anyway, yea, it's really stupid I don't get it. On the upside, someone found pictures of how the Jetta possibly turned out and it might not be so bad. It was pretty funny though, part of the one show I watched, the Skyline guys were spot welding the ENTIRE car, around the windows, where the unibody meets the panels everywhere. On the Cobalt front they were tearing down the whole engine, completely gutting it by hand to rebuild it back up. Over in the Jetta Camp......Installing a new rear bumper . The solidified it for me.
