  • Ouch... for the clutch

Dont worry no ranting going on lol.

Just wanted to say that I decided to go with the OEM VW one not the one off ecstuning.com. It go here today and they tried to install it, just one problem came up. The flywheel.. They said that 9/10 the flywheel can be machined so it will fit, but this time they had to shave down so much surface area that it was to thin. So had to order a new one for 1200 bucks! This is costing more than expected its like going to be around 2800$ to fix everything and labor But get my car back today just in time for the mucky weather

Just an update thought I would share.

In retrospect you could have gotten a cheap used but still ok OEM clutch and flywheel off vortex from someone who upgraded and had someone here in town just install it in their garage for you... something like that. Hindsight is 20/20 though right?

Yea shouldve done that, stupid choice just for sale value if I decide to sell my car. Dunno just came to that conclusion to get the original one. Ya ur right on the hindsight. But so much I want to do to this car, yet I dislike their service and have had very bad experiences at NL etc.. but I still love VW and want to go mod crazy over or after the winter.

I fail to see how an upgraded clutch, especially a better one, would hurt resale value....I would have just as easily put in a sachs VR6 setup for 1/4 that price, and not have thought twice about it....

If its stock feeling then sure, I think that if it doesnt feel stock it makes the car harder to sell.

3Gs for a clutch and flywheel though? That doesn't sound right at all. Unless they are charging you the labour twice.

Shop rate is 80 bucks/hr and it's no more than an 8 hour job. So I don't see where the clutch and fly cost 2300 dollars.
