Anyone know of a good price for X-Drilled rotors for a MKIV Jetta? I'm not talkin' Brembo big brakes or anything...just some nice cross-drilled rotors. Also, who makes a good [decently] dust-free brake pad with a decent price tag attached?

what i think is you should check ebay motors since the exchange rate is so preferable.

Re: X-Drilled Rotors
the problem with cross drilled rotors, ESPECIALLY ebay cross drilled rotors (yes i know the set you are talking about VERY well) is that they are prone to cracking. a factory brembo blank is going to have the same stopping characteristics as these knock off rotors which are not brembo's but merely have brembo blanks and then have been cross drilled by an outside company.
we had a set develop small hairline cracks between a few of the drills last year. not somthing you want to be seeing on a set of cross drilled rotors.
in all honesty for the applications 90% of drivers use them for, cross drilled rotors are completely useless. unless you are tracking your car and building up high heat in the rotors they really are not needed. cross drilled rotors take away surface area off of the rotor making the rotor slightly less effective.
really for what most use them for they are purely for looks. i have run both and the difference is hardly noticeable. i may switch back to some brembo factory cross drilleds as i plan on tracking my car a lot more than i have been lately. but then i am going to be using a high quality rotor. buy the OEM facotry brembo blanks, you wont be disappointed.
if you are concerned about your braking there is a lot to look at other than rotors. a simple brake line flush may be the best thing to improve braking.Team Highschool

Re: X-Drilled Rotors
I was just thinking of getting new rotors if I needed to replace them. I've noticed some considerable squawking coming frome the brakes on light braking. I took a look at the pads today, and there seems to be quite a bit left (like more than 1/2 inch). I don't know why they're sounding so crappy.'02 Jetta 1.8Tuuurbo

Re: X-Drilled Rotors
sorry i nearly steer you in the wrong direction there !!
i have used 2 sets of these brembo x-drills with no hairline cracks... maybe i did not drive hard enough? but i do agree they are 99% for looks and calgary winters are better without these as the surface area issues plus the heat dissipating issues...
i did it just for looks and personally i have been very happy with them.

Re: X-Drilled Rotors
lifetime warranty on brakes??
when i hear things like that i start to get worried. especially things that are supposed to be performance items.
in actual fact you probobly didn't drive them hard enough. normal day to day driving puts very little strain on the braking system. tracking your car however creates prolonged HIGH heat periods which can cause said cracking between the cross drilleds.
i am going drilled and slotted this week as i am not satisfied with my braking power but do not want to increase the size anymore if possible.
one more rule of thumb for braking. you want to keep your brakes as small as possible while still being able to stop the car. bigger brakes mean more unsprung weight = harder time stopping and accelerating.Team Highschool
