  • Front Euro Plate Not Allowed?

Coming home tonight I went through a check stop, Mr. Officer asked what was on the front of my car, I told him it was a euro plate. He told me to take it off and that its $115 fine if you have one on. Told him I didn't know of that rule and i was on my way.
I was just wondering if anybody else had run into this problem.

My buddy got a ticket last year, went to court with it. Judge dismissed the ticket and he drives with the plate till this day. He said that in 8 years that he has the plat that's his first ticket and ones cop mention the plate to him at checkstop.
I have my plate for 6 years - no problem so far.

I thought that running any kind of plate on the front was ok as long as it was not clearly an attempt to fake your cars identity. I think that is bull anyway as what is the difference of people with those nice airbrushed unicorn plates.

I just got my new Euro plate for the front so I will see, I previously have only ever been pulled for running a euro plate in the rear

That sounds like BS to me. I sounds more like the cop was pissed because he got stuck with checkstop duty on a Thursday night. I would definately fight any ticket for a euro plate

I was pretty sure that in the provinces that don't require a front plate you are alright putting on a euro... Hmmm

So the red of your car feels like the red lights of the ambulance?

I think the red of the car is just a big heat score.......I was driving either to or from work each time, and I apparently have a VERY heavy foot....was doing about 160 on crow the one time..oops....Now, to demonstrate how the car attracts police, I was driving beside my partner, he was driving the same speed, in his white chev s10 pickup....I got nailed!

                        Technically...

                        What's o.k., no questions asked:
                        - Vanity Plates (ie. Unicorns, newveedub, I Love my VW, etc.) provided they don't look like the current AB plates (ie. imitation)
                        - Old plates (ie. more than 25 yr's old) on cars from that era (ie. more than 25 yr's old)
                        - A valid front plate that matches the rear plate issued to you

What's not o.k., and can result in a ticket (depending on the "little man" syndrome of the officer):
                        - Displaying a plate from another jurisdiction (ie. Europe), unless it is a valid plate registered to your car from that jurisdiction
                        - Imitations of plates from other jurisdictions (ie. Europe)

Usually, they are referring to plates from other provinces, territories and the United States in the above as they are all the same size. However, this does not preclude them in issuing a ticket for a Euro front plate.

                        Hope this helps... Cheers...

Mines technically still a valid plate from that jurisdiction....but not registered to my car!

See I had that stupid front Plate because I'm from BC, so when I got Alberta insurance I went to West Ed and bought a VW Symbol plate that is black with a white VW symbol on the front. It looks neat to me and I didn't want to the Stupid Unicorn plate, or anything like that on my car.

Now Nadine has a Joke front plate on Beater 1982 VW Jetta that is Blue and reads: "Don't Laugh it is paid for! "
