  • Which clutch??

Hey guys as you know my clutch is completely blown, got it fully checked today. I am not going through the dealership because they are bs and everything, and I dont want to deal with them. But I was wondering what the difference between the OEM 1.8t clutch and the Stage 1 Clutch kit from ecstuning.com is?
Its on sale now for 400 USD, and the OEM vw one is 1100$. I wanted to go with the ecstuning one but my parents want to get the OEM VW one because they like it since its the stock part. Just wondering if theres a big difference between price and if the performance is a lot better?

Also is it easier to sell with the stock clutch or the aftermarket one?

    Thanks in advance
    Kenny

Personally I will be goin with an aftermarket clutch when the time comes (shouldn't be too long the way I drive). But if you are selling the car, and your 'rents are footing the clutch bill then go with OEM.

I will be getting an aftermarket clutch when mine goes, they are alot cheaper and usually better anyway. But like Mr. Burns said, if your parents are paying, don't argue with them!

Yeah an aftermarket clutch like a Spec will last longer, but if its your parents car or they are paying, you probably don't want to put in anything too aggressive.

If you looked closely at the ECS kits, I believe the stage1 is actually an OEM VR6 clutch, so you are putting in OEM parts.

I have the Autotech kit, comes with VR6 clutch and g60 lightened flywheel. When you do upgrade to a VR6 clutch you have to change to a different flywheel because its 28mm instead of 21mm.

i would say YES do this upgrade, its cheaper, its OEM and the feeling is STOCK. only difference i feel is because my flywheel is 1/3rd the weight now.

This is exactly what I'm doing when mine goes. Because, Simon is always right!

Hey Simon -- how is drivability (compared to stock) with the lightened g60 flywheel?

its not that much diff, but it is noticable. its 10 lbs isntead of the stock 21lbs. so its not light enough to cause any chatter which is good. but you can see the rev's climb quicker and drop alot quicker too. i dont know if it was because my stock clutch was pooched, but with the new one there's a definate release point where the clutch gives and it makes it pretty nice to drive and launch.
