I have been looking at boost gauges and need to know how much boost is average for a non chipped gas car, I am thinking between 7 - 11 lbs as I have read other posts but what about the gauges with the negative boost (vacuum) and the one that will go to 30 lbs? After a car is chipped how much extra boost is generated? I am planning to chip at some point in time in the future, got to get some wheels first, those steelies are starting to get on my nerves.

Re: Boost Gauge Question
(VDO 150-121) The one with the -30 boost to +25 boost would be the best unit to purchase?Barry

Re: Boost Gauge Question
I would definately do the job (it's the one I have ), but I will be changing mine soon because it doesn't light up very well. The backlight is pretty much the right color, but the needle doesn't light up good enough for me. I will probably be switching to Omari, but they are pricey. Maybe ask around and see what other people have as well. I know that Ryan has the Omari one and likes it.Kyle

Re: Boost Gauge Question
Awe-tuning one!!
Personally, I think the autometer guages are of higher quality compared to VDO and Omori (same as awe-tuning). With the VDO and Omori gauges, you have to put a restrictor into the vacuum line otherwise it will buzz (awe-tuning one comes with a T meant for this). This unfortunately causes the gauge to lose some of it's responsiveness. My old Autometer sport-comp guage, while it didn't match my interior at all, was damn responsive! No rattling, and I had a 1/4" tube feeding it with no restrictor!1.8T

Re: Boost Gauge Question
The cobats are a lot lighter blue, as opposed to the purple. Omori wasn't out when I bought my Apexi II.
But as far as actual gauge quality, nothing I've seen touches it.
Ah I still have cobolt pics:
If I was buying today, I'd probably get an Omori boost for apillar or column and then the 3 vdos for over the stereo.

Re: Boost Gauge Question
I am thinking I will put the boost on the "A" pillar and if I get other gauges I will build a custom cluster in the console where the ashtray is now.Barry
