Well..Like i said in the other thread, the likelyhood of me buying another vw isn't that great. Im not an old schooler thats been drivin VW since the day i got my license or anything, I just loved the look of MK4's as soon as I got into mikes a few years ago...its exactly like you said about CVD, you got a mk4 and then there was on one to talk to...well what if I move to a bmw or a saab? Then you're phasing out members (sure, its based on their choice in car, but they wouldnt have ot leave it if was an all euro club...then, after a few guys switch makes, you HAVE your in house BMW expert, saab expert...etc)
And again, like I said in the other thread, im just along for the ride

I agree with James, although I probably won't buy another VW after this, I will most definately be buying an Audi, BMW, or even Porsche as my next ride. Because of this, I would still love to be apart of the same group of people that I have come to know while owning my VW.
This would be the point in a relationship where the two parties agree to take a "break." Blair, I know emotions are high after losing Bahnfest, but perhaps instead of trying to fix everything at once, we should just let it slide for a month or two and see where it settles. Summer is almost over anyway and there's little likelihood of there being many more shows this year.
I have never once brought up changing the name or focus of this club, just responding to others who have and trying to keep things a democracy here by seeing what YOU ALL WANT.
Blair Former Cars: '12 Fiat 500, '10 VW GTI, '05 Smart Fortwo, '96 VW Jetta GLX, '02 VW GTI 337.........
Geoff, as you will see, there have been polls to address this. Democracy still reigns supreme.
What - 50% +1? Ok Quebec. As far as I can see, going full VAG has good support, everything Euro is still contested.
You, me, everyone - we all make up the group known as 'us'. As a part of 'us' I don't see why I cannot address us as 'us'. As for becoming a subforum, who's to say that it would be tiny? I'm pretty sure it would be bigger than 'tiny'.
No, you would be part of the bigger Euro section with your Beamers and Porsches, while the core VWers are regulated to the side lines.
If they should be intimidated by anyone, it would be you. I can't say why people don't overcome the intimidation factor other than it's down to their personal choice.
The only people intimidated by me are those who persist in dodging questions and instead resort to insults.
I've never argued the fact that the members have joined because of their interest in VW's. Should the club expand to an all-Euro format, there would still be a place for them as well as a new place for people with other interests.
So you're taking a group of people that joined together based on something they had in common and making the huge leap of logic that they would have joined anyway if that commonality was removed.
Now what happens when I buy a new car that isn't a VW yet i wish to remain part of this fantastic group of people? Wouldn't it be great if there was a club where we could all remain tight-knit yet share information about more than just VW's?
What happens when I buy my RX8? Or my Cobalt SS? If you're going to use that argument, why discriminate against those who no longer stick with Euro cars in general?
If you are part of a hockey team and you leave to play baseball, do you keep hanging with the hockey team? At some point you accept that you've moved on.
Suppose you sell your car to get a mini-van because kids are on the way. You can still post. You can still come to meets and enjoy talking about VWs that you no longer have. Or maybe just keep up with friends. But why should you try to force everyone else to cater to your mini-van? Why are YOU so convinced that by changing cars, you'll suddenly be outcast? Tons of people come to VW meets in rental Focuses, or Saturns - why do they have to become part of the forums/shows/whatever.
EDIT: Thanks for pointing out my 'confusion'. I chose the wrong description; "paid sponsor." Nice work there, Geoff. You're resorting to childish tactics. You are a great debater indeed.
Whatever. You specifically said "Paid Sponser" because I misspoke and said sponsor. Your argument made sense if you were talking about a paid sponsor like tiretrends. So I gave you the benefit of the doubt rather than assume you didn't grasp the similarity between a beyond local VW forum and a local VW forum on a Euro board. I won't make that mistake again.
And here's my big unanswered question: If those who want to support a huge Euro board, why not start it separately? You'll need a new domain anyway, and can recruit anyone you want. If it's as great as you think, everyone will migrate there over time, just as the CVD mk4ers all ended up here (more or less). Why do you need to force everyone here at gunpoint rather than let us make our own decision?
That way, if you're right and it's a huge success, we'll all end up there anyway. If you're wrong, you haven't killed anything.
EDIT: And someone commented that they thought I was attacking Blair. I'm not. He's one of the friendliest guys I've ever met and a great organiser/president. But he went from MK4 to mk3 to Smart, so what do you do? I know I would lose interest in VWs in general if I bought a brand new Acura.
I'm at a loss for words in regards to this thread.
I'm only going to say this once, and I hope not too many people take offense to it. I would argue that at least 50% of our core group is going to be buying non-vw's as their next cars. Blair already has, and he is our president (ie:the dude who does alot of the work). Ryan has mentioned moving on to a new brand.... and so have other members who are heavily involved. I myself may not own an MKV, and may move to a different vehicle as well. If the core group moves on, I would argue that alot of you may be without a real "organized" club.
IMO.... we should put this to a ballet, and settle it once and for all at a big meet. Make the meet sometime in September, and give everyone ample warning.
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....

Maybe because the people who put most of the work to get the club to where it is, are now voting as the "majority" to move in a new direction. You have mentioned this same point like 5 times in two threads. I think we all get it...... just the majority don't agree with it.

Well my feeling is that everyone likes these forums and so we would just transform them by adding a few sections such as Mods & Performance for All VWs, All Audis and then other euro brands AS DEMAND DICTATES but keep the general, lounge, members and events sections as is.
I am also worried that if I was to end my position as President of NVD (to start another club or to just leave) that things here would not survive, that is why I have continued to do as much as I can even without owning a VW, not because I care about what car I or you drive but becasue I CARE ABOUT THIS CLUB AND ITS MEMBERS.
Khyron: you make it sound like if we change to euro format that the floodgates are going to open and all of a sudden this place will be full of bmw/merc. drivers and you will be a minority. forchristssake it is just a title, or designation if you will. realistically nothing will change except the url you enter into your browser to get here.

I agree with this and that was me who showed up in the rental Fucus
baby steps would be a good start like maybe making more VAG guys welcome before overhauling everything and maybe end up farther behind when we started. Start a mk1/2/3 forum and a euro other forum see how many new members it attracts and go from there. Stop building (or burning) bridges when you can just cross one when you come to one. I can't even image how Blair feels right now, basically this whole forum has been his baby that he has put much time and thought into and just because he bought a smart has he stoped posting here? nope because we all know he still has a love of VAG.
PS I would hit a smart car up in an instance too. Hell you can park those things anywhere.

EXACTLY!! I don't know how this isn't an easy thing to realize.

It's from a movie, it's intent was to lighten the mood, once you see the movie you will understand (Anchorman).

I think the only reason a "big" jump so to speak is being considered is because who wants to do this again if we get a nice Euro segment?!
