Well becasue of all the heated debate that resulted over the name change I am proposing a poll to see why people want a name change and what direction they would like to see this club take.

Re: Club Direction Poll
There is no option for old name but more focus on VAG cars. Adding some more sections to the site (like MK1/2/3, audi etc) would make it look way friendlier to those people. Just my $0.02Name: Brent

I voted for option 3 because I like (almost) all euro cars. That said whatever happens I'll be stickin' around. Hell, if I sold my car tomorrow and bought a chevy ( ) I would likely still post here.Last edited by Mr. Burns; 08-03-2005, 07:24 PM.

Re: Club Direction Poll
Mostly VWs, but no problem with some good Audi and other cars (Smart car approved!) to give some variety. If a guy really wants to join and happens to own a BMW then don't stop him. But I don't think the club should be working hard to attract those members. At the same time, someone shouldn't be kicked out because they bought something else if they want to stay for other reasons.
I just don't want it to be a part of yet another generic BMW or Mercedes club that can't settle on what it likes so it tries to like everything. I personally enjoy most cars, including 300Cs, vettes, acuras, RX8s, ferraris, etc it's just that a club has to have focus or you end up being a giant generic blob.
NVD should focus on becoming the modern/water cooled option and let CVD turn into the classic/air cooled club, as that seems to be their true passion. I enjoy their people (real life is not the boards) but I was essentially forced to leave as one of the only remaining MK4 owners. I had no one left to talk to about my car, yet NVD was piles of great info and the meets were fantastic in terms of car content! That's a huge mistake on CVDs part that created this opening for NVD to take MK4/MK5 + and attract the mk3s and even 2s.
That's my beat-up opinion anyway...

Re: Club Direction Poll
Re: expanding to other euros.
Honestly, other than existing club members who might buy a BMW, I can't see any BMW people wanting to join. They already have groups in Alberta and, lets be honest, there's an attitude issue that would keep most from participating in a club that caters primarily to VWs.
Re: NVD staying exclusively VW.
There's already VW overlap in the city with CVD. However, IMO, since CVD caters mostly to older models and classics, I'd say keep NVD (or whatever it becomes) primarily VAG, VW and Audi, with a focus on the newer cars but no purposeful exclusion of older models. That way it stays focused without leaving anyone out who would actually want to join.Yuval

Re: Club Direction Poll
Here's a thread about "Eurospeed" - a CY euro club that I think never got off the ground:
http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.p...b&pagenumber=1
and a different attempt:
http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.p...highlight=Club
The problem seems to be that BMWs have enough on their own (Bimmerfest, etc) and Mercedes just don't seem to have enough young owners. So really who would you end up targetting?
Audi at least makes some sense as part of the club and if it gets big enough could even eventually break off (much like the MK4s did), or look at attracting more brands then? Plus there's piles of part sharing and similar tuning tricks, as well as Vagcom compatibility, same engines, DSG, etc.
Just need to get a lambo owner to join.

Re: Club Direction Poll
I pretty much detailed my opinion in the other post.
I know a lot of people might prefer if this was a VW or VAG only club, but in the long run it is hard to see how that will be best for the club as an organization. If this was Vancouver or Toronto I would say aye, but its not. I am not saying that a Euro club is my preference, I am saying its the best decision for the future.
The fact is that the club has the most to gain by opening up membership a little bit. Its also easier to name and publicize the club as a european club vs a VAG club. It would also possibly help define the differences between NVD/CVD. More people and sponsors means more events, shows, and better club support. As it sits we have never been able to arrange a group buy, event, or show. It also gives our members somewhere to go if they do not want to own another VW. As it sits, we are making fools of ourselves being a VW club when multiple core members do not own VW's and more are selling their VW's daily and moving to BMW's.
Opening up membership will not ruin this club. It will not turn it into another beyond and neither will it be like other clubs invented by people on beyond - because the people who are IN this club and who run this club are dedicated to turning it into a worthwhile organization. By dedicated I mean that they invest real time and money that is not providing any return.
I am confident in saying that the majority of people who really contribute to the running and planning of NVD are in favour of a more european theme. I think that it is because NVD values everyone's opinion that there are these polls. However, I think that the tail may be wagging the dog if many people vote according to their own needs without ever commiting their own time or resources and without considering what would happen to the club if two or three key people were to leave now or in the future.
Please, if you are going to vote, consider it a responsibility and a priviledge. By voting you should be saying that you are willing to vollunteer your own time and resources to taking the club in that direction. So far, certain people talk a lot but don't really participate when it comes to helping the majority.
Think about this question: If the vote goes the OTHER way, will you be leaving the club? For most VW owners, you will be in the club either way. For those people who are moving away from owning a VW, you are basically taking something away from them.Last edited by Kor; 08-03-2005, 10:04 PM.KR

Re: Club Direction Poll
I don't see the problem with accomodating all Euros. If the MB and Bimmer folks stick to their clubs and don't take part in ours, then no biggie; but there will still be a place for them here should they choose.
I also have to agree with all the other posts about "people making a club what it is; not the cars." We've got such a great member base that I can't see it turning into a "Beyond.ca 2".2008 Audi RS4

Re: Club Direction Poll
I would probably still post but I would not remain in the club as a generic "Anything European" club. Because sooner or later, someone would buy a Neon SRT or a Honda S2000 and you'd say "Well, why not", and then what?
If there is a core of you that are that gung-ho about making a Euro club, then why not make a new one - many people will join both, or maybe not. You aren't going to keep using the Newveedub name/domain anyway so why bring it down with you? Leave, and let it fall into chaos if that's your preference, or hand it over to someone else who cares, as Peter did. It's not a charity - if those 2 or 3 core people want to go, then have some respect for the original reason you came here. But don't preach that everyone owes you and if we don't listen to what you want you'll take your toys and go home. Maybe if there was no members left, and the forums were a graveyard, but it's BUSY. There are tons of VW members!
What do you have to offer the average BMW or Mercedes owner? You have no show rep, no deals, no guru BMW owners to offer insight or advice, and no dealership connections. What's the draw? It's real easy to wave your arms and say "All Euro cars, join me and my buddies because we are cool", but why? So a few people that you made friends with have an excuse to stay? Why do you need a club to hold friendships together in the first place? If Ryan buys a Dodge, it's not like you have to shun him for life!
Any arguments about being easier to advertise, or draw more users by being all Euro applies equally to allowing Japanese cars. Or Domestics. Or Koreans. Bigger market, bigger exposure, must be better right? Why is 30-60 members bad? Why do you want to get 1000? You don't think all water cooled VWs and all Audis is a big enough niche?
You say that NVD has always being a Euro car club, but aside from Blair's dad's TT and possibly an Audi, what euro cars have been in any show for NVD? I've never seen a BMW or a Mercedes at a meet?
