    Re: Club Direction Poll

Really depends on if I get presents or not. If I find a Pzwo kit in my stocking then maybe I wont hate........

            Re: Club Direction Poll

IMO I think you guys are looking at the "Shows" thing the wrong way. "Just because you think you can box doesn’t mean you can jump in the ring with Ali" (lol thats so corny but true) you have to start small and when word gets out your shows will get bigger and better. That and maybe abit more help from club members and not just a few key guys trying to do all the work. Changing the club to appeal to more of a "Euro" theme may not help this right away. I think a VAG/Euro club (I would like to see a VAG club) would be a great move but for some reason I just cant see many Bimmer or Benz guys running over to sign up for a membership (but maybe in a few years when the word or rep builds up). I'm not a member of your club so i dont know how this will be taken and I'm no expert, I simply wanted to voice my opinon. I'm not even a member of your club its just my 2 Cents

I realize that, I was agreeing with you. I still favor the Euro club model.

                Re: Club Direction Poll

I placed my vote, but will also add a short comment. What attracted me to NVD and away from CVD (yes, I was a paid member there for roughly half a year before discovering NVD) was the number of people who had the same car as me (MK IV). Other than my '72 Westie which I am debating restorations on, I had nothing to talk about with any of the people that came out to the CVD meets. One attendance at a NVD meet and it was easy to say I had found my new 'home'. If the club expands to include other non-vag cars, I will likely end up drifting back to VW vortex, and away from this forum. One of the things I always liked best about this place was that it was so easy to get responses from a variety of people with the same or similar cars. The amount of shared parts with the other VAG cars makes me feel comfortable grouping with them. Add to that the next car I drive will likely be an Audi or another VW, I can still find good information here for my vehicle. While I like all euro cars in general, I agree with several other posters that having too many different brands of cars in the club will in fact dilute the quality of the information, and make it harder to find the answers we all seek.

                Sorry for the long post...

                  Re: Club Direction Poll

I like the idea of having a larger club, involving a bunch of euro's, but exactly like Jeff is poiting out, I have nothing to talk about with Mercedes guys. Personally, I think the VAG direction is the way to go. It will help expand the club, not too much. If a bunch of BMW guys and Merc guys joined, Im sure that it would end up being seperate clubs with the same name (VW guys would stick with VW guys, BMW with BMW, etc)
                  So I vote VAG

                    Re: Club Direction Poll

VAG only cars is the way to go.

for the record this forum has a little too much emmmmkaaaay going on which isn't too cool. while i do like the newer style cars the attitudes of many of the newer owners have is pretty pathetic.
you dont understand what i mean, need an example? spend some time on the MK4 forum on the vortex and you will get it real quick.

"why do you call them dubs, it doesn't say dub anywhere in Volkswagen"

keeping it open to the newer cars, mk2, mk3, mk4, and mk5 isn't a bad thing. on VWDOV.ca we encompass all car VAG cars (mainly VW/Audi) and it goes well. that said a majority of the owners are MK3+, but it is good having the mk1 and mk2 guys around. they really know the tech side of cars, having to fiddle under the hood everytime they wanna go anywhere :P

                      Re: Club Direction Poll

Thanks for the input guys, you do have to understand that if things changed that the people will probably not so most likely that there will not be instantly 30-50 guys spouting about Bimmers and Benzs.

That being said I think the focus will be on VAG cars for the revamp, but this will be outlined in the upcoming proposal.

I've always considered this club to be a Mk4 club from the beginning which kept me away. If it changes, I will likely become a member.

EDIT: I voted for a VAG club.

I must say when I first was looking at the club all I saw was MK4 stuff, which got me to thinking that maybe it was not the right place.... I agree that it should be VAG club

Being how I have been a member of other car clubs before and I have started my own club in the past, I have a pretty good feeling how things go down. I am here for the long haul and as long as I have my Mk4 and they are not excluded from the group, I will do my best to help the crew. Don't be afraid to contact me and ask me to do stuff.

                              Re: Club Direction Poll

I'm a quiet lurker of this forum but have been around since it's birth. I see and promote your club at car shows and hold it in high regard.

I would like to mention that I very much support the transition from New VW over to that of the VAG spectrum.

Although I love BMW's and Mercedes, and plan to own both eventualy, you cannot ignore the fact that these drivers for the most part are a little more "Snooty" and will not offer the time of day to acknowledge an older vw, or hell even a new one for that matter, if they are not from VW roots.

I know this all too well.

Way back in the day when I drove my MK1 Jetta, that thing was ignored and hate on by every group out there. Beyond meets, car shows, pretty much everything. Then I took the car to C1's Customer appreciation day and suddenly had all these people checking out an 84 Jetta GLI. It didn't matter what car you drove, so long as it was a VW. People were enthusiastic and it was the first time I was really happy with that car.

I experienced pretty much the same thing with my MK2, except for the fact that at least that car was decently fast and would walk on the non M driving bimmer drivers anyways :P haha.

VW's, especially the older generation ones will rarely get any attention or help if this site transforms into a euro free-for-all. I'm sure we all agree that VW owners are a little different than the honda crowd, the toyota crowd, the BMW crowd, the Benz crowd etc etc.

Granted I have since moved to the Audi Group, nonetheless, I still feel at home being with my VAG Boys and Girls. You can take the driver out of the volkswagen but you cant take the volkswagen out of the driver.

So with that said do as you wish.

                                Re: Club Direction Poll

Well said Ben, and I agree. I voted for a VAG club because what happens when a mercedes guy comes to our forum and asks a tech question.. we say "umm... i dunno why dont you check a mercedes forum??" and he'll say "oh, ok well why am i even here" where as a VW guy can come and say "hey guys how do i install my headlights on my jetta" and we can say "come on by to the next meet or DIY day and we'll give you a hand with it"

this club is about helping eachother out about stuff we know, and we dont know anything about benz's and bmw's. but we know audi/vw's and we know them well.

that being said, we can still let others in if they want (ie. derick with a bmw? blair with his smart) but let them know we're not catered to their automobile.
