Most of the MK4s+ left CVD because the air-coolers were dominating everything. Hell even on CVD boards, mk4 questions often end up being "check NVD". It was almost getting to the point that NVD was officially the VW mk4+ with some mk3s and still had more members than people could remember names. Will having 100+ members really make it a better club? Is the goal to put on a V8less show and fill the roundup center with all your own cars?
If the majority want to blow away the gain NVD made over the last few years, and turn into another beyond.ca mix of brands, so be it.
And I'd love to see the new guy with his stock VW come to a meet with M3s and S4s so he can talk about his Jetta. Yah right.
I'm sure there is demand for a Euro club, just seems strange to destroy this one, rather than just start a new one and have some overlap for awhile.
And personal motivation is exactly what it is. Blair and some others HAVE switched but are attached to the group and logically want to widen the focus, as there's a lot of personal time and effort invested. Go check the last time this came up - when Peter was buying his BMW.

Who said anything about creating the next Beyond. Let's put it this way. Beyond has a much younger "crowd", which shows very much by the type of cars they drive, and their forum topics. I am not trying to sound elitest by any strecth, but Euro cars are more expensive, and in that sense, a Euro-Club will always be a niche club anyway. There is no way NVD will become a "beyond" style club anytime in the near future at all.
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....

Sorry, but the last time this came up Peter was long gone from this club. To say that Major people in the Club want to change the name just because they are buying non VW's is silly (I could use other terms) in fact, Blair didn't even bring it up (nor did he the last time IIRC). The people that want the change most all still DRIVE VW's!
I could say more but I won't....But to quote someone on the boards "Complaint Denied"

Well seeing as I paid for a membership, I get to ***** rather than casually toss a club in the garbage because there was shitty turnout for a show (I registered, did you?).
Someone explain why all the Eurolovers don't start a new club, call it Euro-Bitches or whatever, and get people to join up. If this club dies because everyone switches, so be it. Most people here are already on several clubs anyway...
I think the newer people who just joined up, and who have that new VW enthusiasm should have more say that the cranky old timers who want to hold a clique together. Would the new guys have joined if this was some mishmash of Audi, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Volvo, Mercedes, etc?
Vortex got too big for its britches by trying to be all things to everyone instead of keeping its focus.
22 -4 looks like a landslide victory for those in favor.
A lot of people don't especially like the name but that doesn't mean they want to start having BMW/Mercedes all rolled into one. Those owners typically tend to look down on VWs anyway, so I'm not sure that you've considered this through.
Go on Beyond and search for when they were gunning for a Euro club section. VWs were specifically EXCLUDED. Yet those are the owners you seek to attract.
I don't care either way, but I offer that a name change is putting the cart before the horse. I think a better forum for discussing a name change would take place after a discussion about what the club is here for.
Personally, I am here because I like my VW and know that you folks like yours too. There is a lot of info out there on them and collectively we are a great resource to each other. We have other common interests and many of us are friends.
How and why did I join? I was at VW show and got windshielded with the postcard. I would not have joined or even gone to the website it it was a euro car club or forum.
I think the club needs to figure out what it wants to be when it grows up and move in that direction. Before this, a name change would be Farfromgood.
Whoa.....long thread.
From some of the responses it almost seems as I'm not welcome.. thats fine. I do have other places that I can go with my Audi, but choose here for a local atmosphere.
I dont feel by any means that people are trying to change this into a "Beyond" type board...but maybe just open it up to offer something to a few more people so that we would have the capability of putting on our own shows, and larger meets.
*Note: When people on Beyond where looking at a Euro section, Rage2 said he was open to anyone/any brand having their own section based on that they operate it as a seperate club ie. Hold their own meetings. If someone seggregated VW's, it was that particular person not Beyond as a whole.
I am in favor of a name change, and will voice my opinion when I see or can maybe come up with something appropriate.
Here's an idea... maybe approach some fo the sponsors and see what they think... People like Bob have dealt with Sponsorship before, and I'm sure would be a good help when dealing with this.
This could be totally off base, but what about approaching a US based website and being a Northern chapter of it? ( Europrojekts comes to mind?)

Yup, sure did, and in case your next question is am I a paid member, yes I am.

IMO the name NEWVEEDUB scares away the mkI and mkII vw owners, leaving them to hang out with all the CVD'ers . when i drove my mkII i didn't join the club for that exact reason, and no where on the website did it really say that i was welcomed with my car. Now i know different... but i'm sure some people still feel this way.
I totally agree with this.
www.ottawa-vdubbing.com is a watercooled-only VW club (VW includes Audi's too, although there are only a couple Audi drivers who post). There is another ottawa club that is "both" air and watercooled, but it's 90% aircooled guys (blah!). On OVD, there is definitely less than 50% with mk4's, but at the big shows we'll have 30-40 cars show up...with a great mix of all generations.
If the joining-factor of the club is VW's, then why give it a "Euro-xxxx" name? The name of the club should reflect what it hopes to achieve (yikes. I almost typed 'mission statement' ) There's no harm in non-VW's being in the club, but this place should at least retain some kind of specific identity...
Well you can stick Eurowerks on the side of my garage if you need a shop. Personally I like NVD, it describes what I come to this site for. I have no problem extending invitations to the whole VAG group but I do think the majority of the members we have now will have to dig through alot of info to find what they need unless we add extra forum sections for each euro brand that we are trying to attract. Now I know some people have moved onto other brands but I came here for VW and would like to see it stay mostly VAG oriented. I would also keep the newveedub.com domain even if we change the name as we do have some sort of rep around and that would be totally lost if we just killed that domain. I think there is alot to think about here and this is the most posts we have had on this topic ever (and it has come up a couple times). Personally I am suprised Ryan hasn't thrown out Rockymountiandubteknics yet

I wasn't the one saying a disagreeing opinion was worthless...
Veeeery Classy.
Answer the question! What is wrong with starting a new club? This all came up because of the failure of the first show which was a HUGE ambitious project and had a very odd name. And now the knee-jerk reaction is to trash everything and start over?
As for R-Audi not feeling welcome, well it's one thing to join up with a sister car that shares an engine, as opposed to a bloody 330i! And you bet if that 330i guy starting saying he wants to change everything to BMW logos I'd have words about it.
I mean, Blair was considering an Echo hatch - what would you have done then? Made it a VW/Toyota forum!?
